Have Empress Tree 5' saplings for trade
Comments (12)The first message offering the trees says both 5' (5 feet) and 5" (five inches.") Since these can be bought in either size online, which is it that's being offered for trade here? There is a substantial difference in value. How sad that I'm the first reader to notice that. BTW, there are many other Pawlaunias (aka Paulownias) beside the invasive tomentosa which should be avoided. Another site recommended the Paulownia fortunei as a fast growing tree grown commercially for the production of hardwood lumber. This species is seen by some as the answer to over-cutting and poor timber management. If the trees offered for trade in this thread is the P.fortunei, and they are 5 feet, I'm very interested....See MoreRoyal Empress
Comments (5)See if you can order some live ambrosia beetles. They help the paulownias along real nice. Just put some pheromones on the trunk and apply the beetles to the trunk and watch your paulownia turn into a beautiful and valuable shade tree. This only works with royal empress trees tho so don't try it on anything else....See MoreNon-invasive member of Paulownia?
Comments (1)Unlikely - all the species are closely similar in terms of seed dispersal behaviour. Catalpa would probably be your best choice, the genus occurs in Japan as well as N America, and Northern Catalpa C. speciosa would be as suitable as Japanese C. ovata. It will also take your winters better than Paulownia. Resin...See MoreRoyal Empress Tree
Comments (19)The Royal Empress Tree has the record for fastest growing hard wood tree of 31ft in just 7 months. Granted, this sounds great, but remember this is only straight up growth. When the tree is growing straight up, it looks like a large over grown weed. The tree should reach a height of 25-40 ft with a 20-30ft spread by the end of its third year. Be careful with this tree. The commonly referred to "Royal Empress Tree" is actually an Paulownia Elongata. This tree is capable of growing 70-80ft tall with a trunk diameter of 2-3ft. For a more conventional landscape tree, try a Paulownia Kawakamii. It grows equally as fast, but will only reach a height of 30-40ft....See MoreJohn Rajotte
