Pistachia chinensis - is it always late to leaf out?

Last year I planted three Pistachia chinensis 'keith davey' along the sidewalk at my house, and now I'm feeling like perhaps I made a mistake. All over town I see oaks, maples, sycamores, ginkos, etc that are fully leafed-out and looking beautiful. Meanwhile, here it is almost May and my pistache trees are only just starting to poke leaves from their buds ... they dropped their leaves pretty fast last fall, too, so I think I'll be lucky to get 6 months of leafy goodness. I live in a very moderate climate; almost never hotter than 75 or colder than 40.

Anyone have similar (or different) experience with pistache? Or know of an online reference showing when different trees typically show/drop leaves? It's odd, now that I think about it, that in all of the stuff that I read before selecting pistache, there was never any mention of it being shy with its leaves.
