Is Jeri Jennings reistant to black spot?

My garden only gets morning sun, so I have been planting hybrid musk roses all around the yard. Last year, I purchased band size Buff Beauty and Felicia from Rogue Valley and 2 gallon size Cornelia and Penelope from Antique Rose Emporium. They all kinda just sat around and didn't do much. But this year everything is growing nicely and loaded with buds. So now I am itching to get more hybrid musk roses!! Is Jeri Jennings black spot resistant? I live in the mid-Atlantic area with humid summer and even my hybrid musk roses were affected a bit last year. Do you have other favorite hybrid musk for me to try?

What is your state? In order to answer your question it is important to know. Where I live (MD) and in VA and PA where my friends live JJ is very BS prone, as well as Felicia. They both get BS and defoliate after the first spring flush w/o spray program.

Jeri Jennings is the worst rose I have for blackspot. It's bad enough that I'm thinking about bringing out Mr. Shovel. A real shame, because it's a beautiful rose otherwise.

I love Jeri Jennings, too, but Rosa 'Jeri Jennings' rarely had leaves in my gsrden - SAD to say. Reading the glowing beginning posts here was making me feel inadequate and ponder the possibility that my organic gardening practices were not providing enough nitrogen. I'm still wondering that, but I took comfort from Lucretia and Kate. After moving JJ to a shadier spot I SP'd her a few months ago. I finally got tired of looking at her all miserable. >I'd prefer one that has good rebloom, fragrance... and hopefully some tolerance for dry heat... and something that's not too hard to deal with... if you know anything about their sizes in a hot socal area, that would be nice, too. Julia Child potentially only grows to about four feet (I think) and is highly disease resistant with a nice fragrance and not very many thorns. It's medium to pale yellow in hot weather, but in the fall it becomes a deep butter yellow. Lots of flushes. If you are thinking about a use as a climber, the tea noisette cultiver of Alister Stella Gray that Antique Rose Emporium sells might work well. (HMF has some pictures named Alister Stella Gray, but many others don't look like the same cultivar at all). I don't know about this particular variety, but noisettes can often take a lot of dry heat. Large attractive shrub medium to light yellow blends Hybrid Musks: fragrant Daybreak, fragrant Danae, or fragrant Francesca. All are overall from a distance on the lighter side of medium yellow. If you'd be happy with a white with a huge yellow center, Trier might work. Most hybrid musks can work as climbers. I know Paul Zimmerman thinks highly of Daybreak, which starts up really early in the spring. It might not rest for long at all in your zone's winter. If you are thinking about climbers now, any of these would look good alongside the Cornelia Hybrid Musk with its hints of peachy tones. Really pale fragrant short Floribunda climber Leverkusen. Really pale fragrant Isabella Sprunt (very short tea). Really pale fragrant Pas de Deux (very short climber). Really pale creamy Belmont Yellow polyantha (not fragrant). Medium yellow thorny rugosa: Topaz Jewel (takes 3 years to establish). About half the pictures of Golden Gate show that one as a pale yellow. It likely all depends on the weather, like so many other yellows. Rise 'n' Shine--half its pictures look pale to me. Very short, but a climbing sport is also available, and if you want a crowd of different roses on an arbor, this one's climbing sport might not take up so much of the room? In all the pictures of fragrant Amazone (aka Soncy) I've ever seen, it's a pale creamy yellow rose, not a deep yellow as HMF states. It might well cover the feet of some climbers on an arbor, but I don't think it's used as a climber. Fragrant blended yellow Anson Jones shrub is pale. Fragrant Mrs. Dudley Cross tea might work. (The main color component, yellow, is very, very pale during hot weather, but pinkish blended edges are still there. Gets pinker in cool weather.) Ghislaine De Feligonde is fragrant, exceptionally easy to grow, thornless. It grows huge as a shrub or can be used as a bushy climber, especially under a short tree. It's mainly white, not yellow, but its blooms don't start out white. To see the overall effect, visit www.antiqueroseemporium.com/rose-1023.html. Susan, About passalong plants in general: I don't know whether you're already doing this, but most of the enthusiastic gardeners I know are generous with cuttings to propagate from and with plants they've propagated. Learn how to propagate plants if you don't know how, and then look out for occasions to swap. Many plants in my garden were given to me by gardeners who propagated them or I grew them from cuttings I was given. Many plants are easy to propagate and many roses are easy. The rule is to propagate only old and older roses reproduction rights of which aren't protected. It's easy to mail cuttings. My old HT 'Mme. Jules Bouche' has reached six feet in height and is covered with buds, though they probably won't open before the cold comes next week. I grew her from cuttings I asked my neighbor for, and it's a rose that you see here and there locally, often neglected but always hanging on, and ready to be beautiful at the drop of a hat. It has traveled all over Italy by way of cuttings passed from gardener to gardener.

TNY, more beauties! Love that Dream Weaver! Is your RI own root or grafted? I got mine 3 years ago grafted on multiflora from Steve at Wisconsin Roses. It's been potted all along and it grows like a weed! I was worried too the first winter. It was a first year budded maiden when I got it and was still fairly small going into winter. I needn't have worried. Came out of winter green to the tips and has never looked back! It blooms in big flushes all season. It does black spot though. But how could you care about a few spots when the blooms are that lovely! If you have an unheated garage or shed you can winter it in there. Put it up off the floor on something and remember to give it some water once a month all winter. As for how I winterize my pots, well, I don't have a garage and not enough room in the shed for all 30 (last year it was 60) of my pots. The only one that goes into the shed is the tree rose. The rest go into my winter pot ghetto along the back (south) wall of my house. I've explained it before but here it is again. I put all the pots together in the 3 ft. wide veggie garden strip between the brick wall of the house and my concrete patio. It's a warm micro climate there. I drive in 4 ft. wooden stakes and staple burlap all the way around them and then pack it with leaves. This usually happens Thanksgiving weekend or the first weekend in December and they come out the first week of April when the stuff underneath them starts to come up. Thank you, mantis! I am sorry to say that I do blackspot when conditions favor that fungus. :-(
I do NOT mildew or rust, however.

I am in northern VA. My Felicia was actually almost entirely BS free last year, and we had a very wet year. Hmm it does sound like JJ is very BS prone. Oh well, it is such a pretty rose. :)

I am loving my hybrid musks. Buff Beauty is trouble free. Jeri Jennings is becoming one of my favorites and it's starting to bloom this week. Gets a little rust in winter but I forgive her.

I don't have Jeri Jennings, but wanted to comment that this year (I think year 4?) my Buff Beauty is past "leap" and into "LEAP!!!" So is Abe Darby, on the other side of the gate. There is overgrown grass right up to their bases and they are still hurling out growth and buds, and are disease free. I adore Buff Beauty!

We had BB years ago. It was wonderful, but DH wanted something different there. So, we moved it, whereupon, it died.
Now, we have it again, and I am VERY glad to have it back.
It's a beauty.

I got Jeri Jennings last year but can't say much about blackspot resistance because the rabbits loved her so much. I generally don't have too many problems with animals munching on roses, but last year the rabbits were quite aggressive and particularly liked Jeri J & Lyda Rose. I put human hair around the plants and that didn't deter them. Pepper spray seemed to work initially and Lyda Rose recovered (probably because she's more mature), but each time poor Jeri would start to grow back it would rain, and I guess wash away the spray because the varmints would return. I thought she was a goner, but Jeri survived the winter and is growing again.

Reading with interest because I'm in VA and love the hybrid musks. My JJ is still in a pot, but looked great last year (our first year together) and is looking strong this year. Also have BB, Cornelia, & Felicia that you have. Others I have are Kathleen, Nur Mahal, Lavender Lassie, Lyda Rose and non-HM Ghislaine de Feligonde. In pots looking for a place to land, in addition to JJ, are Robin Hood, Maid Marion and Moonlight.

If you don't mind a once-bloomer, Marianne, Paul Barden's gallica, is gorgeous and healthy. My 2 are covered with buds and are just beginning to open. The display lasts for over a month. I have a few other gallicas and they are healthy.

My Jeri does get BS a good bit, but this year she is much more leafy due to daily watering, I'm sure. When I planted her (6/08), I was a real newbie so she's in full sun all day but/and still only less than 3' tall and 4' wide. She's loaded with buds now AND is showing some BS, but she's a very pretty green bush for the moment. LOVE your flowers, Jeri, and she had a new admirer yesterday in my open garden who, though she has 900 roses, had never heard of 'Jeri Jennings'. She doesn't do internet much.

I had Jeri Jennings when Rogue Valley first released her years ago, but she croaked in the process of transitioning from band to pot. As far as other HMs go, my favorite is Cornelia, followed closely by Felicia and Vanity (sadly, Vanity is not at all BS resistant here. I spray fungicide, and she does fine that way.)

I have JJ in my yard that get morning and late afternoon sun. I have sprayed for blackspot only twice this year and right now JJ is very clean for now, but then again so are all my other roses.
