Engine Quits when Mower deck engages

I have a 15.5hp craftsman briggs mower with deck. I just had a new carb kit installed. I put the bed on the tractor and now when I engage the mower, the engine quits. I can put the engaging arm halfway up and see the blades spinning. Please, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like your governor isn't working properly or the carb is too lean. Did you clean all the jets properly and hook the linkage to the governor as it was?

Sounds like the seat switch is broke/disconnected

Postr the tractor's model numbers so we know what you have....................................................

Ok, so i just got done replacing both head gaskets as they were both blown. Runs like a top now. I removed the deck and with the mower running i engaged the mower blades and it bogged the engine down and wanted to kill it. No sparks this time. Sparks might have been from the exhaust as one bolt wasn't tightened very well, or from the head itself as the gaskets had 2" spots missing. So i'm going to remove the clutch and clean it, one of the oil leaks dripped right into it and it flung allot of oil out when i started it last. It has to be something i did since it worked fine before i took it all apart, but not sure.

I would go over the routing of the belt first and make sure didn't bump any switch connector off, Changing the oil, air filter, fuel filter, batt. and fuel lines shouldn't stall the engine out unless the "fuel system " still has "air in the hoses from changing the lines" especially if it has a fuel pump on it (usually gravity feed system (tank mounted above the engine) is not as touchy as tank mounted below the engine. I would run it a while at different throttle settings to make sure all the air is worked out of the carb and fuel lines. I still not sure what you mean by stalling out. Does it die??? or does the RPMs come way down then go up and down???

Do you have a Service Manual for a Dixon Ram? IF not , I think I do. IF you would like a PDF copy, contact me at address below, put in proper format and remind me what you want, bad memory and lots of requests. I don't remember for sure but I think the Ram still has an "Interlock Module" which is the only other safety device involved in the PTO circuit which might cause the symptoms you describe that I can think of. As mentioned above, some seat switch connections have a builtin device to prevent you from defeating the seat switch. I THINK the Ram is new enough to possibly have this. Zero turn mower bogs down when blades engaged and backfires some

I have a Craftsman zero turn mower, Kohler 7000 Series, 24hp, 725 cc engine. My problem is...the engine bogs down, sputters some, and backfires when I have the blades engaged. If I sit idly with the blades engaged it does seem to run alright, but when I start moving it slows down like the engine doesn't have the power to run the deck. When disengaging and then re-engaging the blade is backfires. I do use this mower quite a bit, but I keep it maintained. I recently had to replace the carburetor because it was taking carb spray in the air intake to get it to start. so I have: a new carburetor new spark plugs new battery recent oil change new oil filter, and new air filter and also emptied the gas tank to see if there was much gunk and trash in it (there wasn't) Any ideas?

IF you HAD the kit installed, might be a good time to have a talk with whoever did the work.

Or better yet, disconnect the kill wire from the terminal block on the throttle box. This should eliminate all Safety Switches plus the ignition switch. IF the engine runs now, then you know where to start looking.

sounds like the deck safety switch. my old mtd 600 had one. yours might not have one being a craftsman, but it is worth checking. follow the deck raising/lowering handle down to where it hooks up under the frame, try to find an electric switch that is spring loaded, it will look like a pushbutton, and is designed to push shut when the deck is raised all the way up. yours might be sticking closed or not opening all the way,or not making good contact. sometimes the mechanism that holds it in place gets bent from pulling up on the raise/lower handle too hard.
