Cost effective soil testing

Hello,

Being fairly new to this, I'm still reading a lot and it seems like one of the first steps in all the articles is "test your soil". That's great advice but it can get expensive.

For example, I have 13 different large raised bed boxes that all have a little different soil composition after a few years of growing various things in them. The cheapest soil test I found from a university extension was $10/test. That's still $130 to test all them.

I don't want to pay that much if I don't have to. This year I had a few of the boxes tested and then compared those results to some results I got from a cheap soil test kit I bought at a garden store. It was hit and miss but mostly miss.

So how do others do their soil testing?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.
