I'm guessing that the two nurseries you received mislabeled plants from list both Abe and Evelyn. You ordered Evelyn & were shipped Abe; I wonder what you would receive if you ordered Abe? I encourage you to contact the two nurseries involved regarding this error. I think they would appreciate knowing that there's confusion regarding these varieties in their nurseries, and everyone who orders roses expecting correctly named varieties would benefit. I can appreciate the difficulty faced by nurseries in assuring that their hundreds of varieties are always correctly labeled -- especially with roses that share similarities of type, color, etc. I've just had a pleasant email exchange with the owner of a rose nursery concerning a recently imported rose that I'm convinced is mislabeled. I learned that he also has misgivings about the rose's identity. In his reply, he made this statement: " . . . this is the challenge of nurseries, to keep labeling correct and to pay attention to the roses themselves."

Thanks so much for looking and commenting on my pic. ...Abe likes it so far, Ingrid, but he may not be so happy when full summer comes...it won't be dry, but it will be hot. He is growing so much and he has been blooming so nicely, I love it. kay

Sorry, 3:30 in the morning here so I forgot to tell everyone what beautiful roses and fabulous pictures they have posted. Just gorgeous! Whomever is growing Pretty Jessica, give her a chance. I have had her (actually three of her) growing in my front yard for the past several years. She is on her own root and has to be one of my best roses that I grow. When I was deadheading her last week, I called her one of my old faithfuls. I probably have had her for 7 years in the same spot. Gets the brunt of the afternoon sun and still blooms. She is nice and upright and holds her flowers well. She only gets to be about 5 feet or so and is one of the most mannered of the DA roses. Bought her based upon recommendations from folks here on this site and have not been disappointed. I am so happy I got her and have kept her. She gets compliments all the time. Has a nice fragrance as well. Practically thornless too, which is a plus for a DA rose. No disease for me. I find that DA roses take at least three years to come into their own in my garden so I don't think you will be disappointed if you give her a chance to stay.

This is totally normal for Abe. He is a changeable guy, with blooms that look quite different as they age. Sometimes they look more pink, sometimes more apricot. Doesn't he smell great?! I love this rose, despite his terrible black spot.
