Hi Ellie. I also have lots of hanging baskets and balcony containers. Anyway, what I do with mine is I water the baskets every day and I do them by hand with one of those 2 gallon watering cans and every time I water I use 20-20-20 or 15-30-15 at 1/2 of the recommened. This is optional because there are a lot of folks who just fertilize once per weeks and I'm sure the containers do just fine. Those containers have a lot of roots with a lot of competition and plants like the supertunias needs fertilizer. I love using the "symphony" series of osteos cause they are smaller but if they are deadheaded, they bloom continuously. Pinch the dead flower right off. The supertunias are easy to control because you can just trim them with scissors as much as you want to give the container a shaped look so it doesn look "scraggly". They like the "haircut" as well because it fill out the middle.

Thanks everyone for the tips on osteospermum (African Daisy), how timely. I just purchase a gorgeous white one from HD and brought it back with me to the islands and I was wondering how to maintain this plant. Does any one know if it produces viable seeds? I would love to have this plant around for a long time. Thanks again for the info

I had suspected that the Argyranthemum were tough little guys, and was surprised that no one had mentioned them. Hah! I did not know they were Marguerites! Thanks for the link. I had seen that thread before and have done almost all of those flowers before, except Zinnia, go figure! IÂm looking to branch out a little and also need something that is yellow, orange or red. Already have blue/purple and white represented. Heck, maybe IÂll just go with zinnias. I know theyÂre tough. TheyÂre readily available, nice colors. Like I said before, just wanted something a little different, exotic. Hey... maybe Tropical Hibiscus! Kind of pricey for 4 pots on a deck, but theyÂre exotic all right! I wanted to put them on my front porch (only 2 pots), which gets morning sun 'til about 1 pm, but every nursery person I talk to says that they need more sun than that. The cheapest IÂve found them is $13.50... whew! Never thought IÂd say this, but thankfully the weather is really icky right now and the greenhouses are like ghost towns. Gives me a little more time for research and thought. Thanks for all the help.

I was wondering this too. Because the seed I collected from "Lemon Symphony" looks very inconspicuous, like it might be sterile. Certainly not "obvious" like most seeds are when they are ready. I was wondering though, I had a seed packet for "African Daisy" and it produced seeds that look like little round oats (for lack of better description!) Would this be Arctotis seed? (rather than Osteospermum).
