tomplum i totally agree with you. i just took my 920 apart yesterday and it was full of rusty water,so i dumped it out. today i inspected everything and i noticed the reverse chain has a little bit of rust on it;but not enough to damage anything. i only had a water hose and some rags to clean the tranny ;so i took the tranny and a long hose out into the woods and i tried to spray out the grease. big globs came out but the stuff in the cracks was not moving so i scooped it out with my hand. lets just say that was the most difficult thing to get off my hand ever. i got most of the grease out. how do i get everything spotless and what weight of oil do i put in it when im done. yes i kno i have to use rtv around the case to seal it. and where/how do i put a drain plug on it. i can use an engine oil drain plug in the hole for the neutral safety switch.

The puck is not visible in the image. The puck is located behind the caliper and in front of the brake disc. You will see the puck after you remove the caliper. Yes, it seems odd indeed. I have mused over this specific situation and I conclude that the unique complaint can only be due to a couple of circumstances. The first one I have already outlined previously in your other thread. The second scenario would be that the entire frame of the tractor is being reshaped during turns because of looseness in frame rivets, or bolts, or screws.......as the case may be. This hypothetical frame reshaping could probably conspire to LENGTHEN the effective brake rod travel when making a left turn (less brake power)......and SHORTEN the effective brake rod travel when making right turns (more brake power). Because there is a "fine line" difference between NO BRAKES and GOOD BRAKES on this mechanical type of disc brake anyhow, just a little difference in the effective length of the brake rod would have a profound overall effect on the stopping power. Study carefully how the frame is put together. Look closely for signs of dry, powdery rust around all the bolts (or whatever is used) that hold the frame together. You might need to wipe around the bolt heads with a clean dry paper towel and then look at the towel to determine if there is any rust (which implies a loose fit condition).

tom thanks, one is on the way, although I'm still interested in thoughts on what could cause this. Once I've got the new one, I can bench the old one anyway and see if I can figure anything out. I'm also trying to compare these transmissions for durability and torque to the Peerless 205-024x and the Spicer 093264. These are hyrdrostatics with pedal shift, i.e. push pedal forward to go forward and backward to go in reverse. I might like to convert this tractor, maybe by buying a parts machine, but I do haul a york rake with it regularly so I'm pulling harder than I do with just mowing using these hydrostatics and if they aren't up to it, then wouldn't be worth the time. If they are, esp. the 205-024x which is from a similarly heavy 46" wide body Murray 2 cylinder, then I really prefer the pedal shifting option. Thanks, Brian

Now that shop has gained my business.... He bought a new battery at a small local auto parts( so if Lowes mower not running great etc he can use that battery elsewhere. Hubby has been riding it around the yard. Hard to get used to, he said... He is used to the new Husq... like when letting off clutch Husq stops....THIS ONE GOES>>> LOL The blades are in the mower shop getting sharpened..He put back on the mowing deck.
