Spent the morning fine tuning a small irrigation system (17 heads) I installed a couple of weeks ago. Taking the afternoon off. Trying to get some poison ivy on my arm dried up, don't know where I got into it but it's in the seep mode now. When I was working in the water didn't realize how bad it was seeping. Oh well I need some time off.

Throw some diluted bleach on it and some epsom salt water on it too. Make sure plenty of ice cold adult beverages are available as well as a gag cloth when you put the first two items on. ;)

OK - I got the hot ticket for poison ivy ...

Many years ago while my dad was still alive i wondered downstairs into the basement and I saw him lathering up his arms with a yucky old yellow/brown laundry soap ...

The old man told me he had poison ivy and he was using Fels-Naptha laundry soad (which is a bar - not powdered soap).

He then sat outside all lathered up (did not wash the lather off) just relaxing and having a few beers. by the time he got to the second beer - the lather had dried up and and basically left a white film on him arms.

I was mad ... mainly because all these years had passed and my mother would be putting all kinds of useless crap on me ...

Since I can get poison ivy simply thinking about it ... I ended up trying it out several weeks later... Works great...

Heres my ritual for getting rid of the stuff...

Take a good warm shower/bath and wash up real good... if your going to scratch to the point where you open up those blisters - the shower is the place to do it...

Then once ive dried off - I use a liberal amount of rubbing alcohol to clean things up... Feels good because its nice and cold - and instantly stops any itching...

Finally followed by the lathering of the Fels Naptha... Its amazing ... as the soap dries you will feel your skin tighten up a bit ... but the itch will be completely gone ...

Best part is - the soap is cheap, it will last for many years, and it never goes bad.

AM, Yes most controllers are not as flexible as you would like. The more money the more flexibility. I am not even aware of a 6 program controller. Someone may know. What was the old one that you used? I just need to gather more information from you to make an informed suggestion. I need to know your flow rate of your water source. Is your system off a outdoor house faucet or the mainline from your house before your house pressure regulator? If a hose faucet, then fill a five-gallon bucket and time how long to fill. Give us the time to fill 5-gallons. Next is the drip ones, how long or how many and what spacing and the type of drip lines or emitters? How many sprinklers and what Brand/type for each zone? What I am looking for is flow rates of drip tape or emitters to calculate the water demand for each zone. This is like a design in reverse which is a water audit. If you don't have all the info give me as much as you can. Finally, what is your water pressure? Buy an inexpensive pressure gauge that fits on your faucet from hardware store. When I can tell what zone uses what amount of what, then you can tell what zones can run simultaneously and the ones that need extra time can be at a later time and duration. You might try buying another Controller and hook three zone to one and 3 zone to another for the 6 programs you need. JMHO Aloha

vj, You can be as specific or as spread out as you like or need with drip. The key is making sure the water spreads out(plumes) enough to get all the root ball. Depends of the emitter type you use. There are many out there. I use emitters on 1/8" tubing coming from a 1/4" lateral for trees and vines. Two or three per tree with variable flow emitters. For herbs and larger areas I use T-Tape on both side of the plants or even circles. I would not water Bougs very much, they don't like much water and unless you want a very large plant,keep them in pots in or above the ground. JMHO Aloha

I'm moving to a place in the north of Portugal to start my own business as a market gardener, have been having troubles on finding info on how to calculate the irrigation system. My idea idea is to create a well, which should be 80m deep, pump water to deposit on the top of the property, and then supply the garden (24 beds of 0,75*30m) by gravity as much as possible.
