Does Fish Emulsion work on Powdery Mildew???
Comments (4)Well we didnt have any milk in the house and I couldnt stand to look at my plants that way anymore so I had to go ahead and use some Safer brand fungicide. I sure hope it does the job. Its an overcast cool day here so I should be ok there. I have noticed that since its starting to dry its leaving a white residue on my plants, should I spray this off with clean water?...See MoreDoes rain wash fish emulsion fertilizer away?
Comments (2)The nitrogen in fish has various forms--most of it in protein that becomes available (soluble) gradually over a year or two. Urea in the fish blood becomes available quickly as ammonium, which bonds lightly to the soil, doesn't wash out, and lasts about a month. Nitrate in the blood is immediately available nitrogen that does wash out in flooding rains. If you want to be sure your plants have enough nitrogen for a fall spurt, give them 1 TB of plain lawn fertilizer, mostly urea and around 30-0-0. It's not too late to do this in the South....See MoreDoes anyone use liquid fish emulsion?
Comments (7)I tried concentrated fish emulsion before & PHEWWEEE It stunk up my GH for days. Even outside it was stinky, plus if you don't use up the mixed solution it goes bad I got some concentrated seaweed extract bonus when I ordered from T&T this year. Now that is good stuff, 15 grams & boy does it go a long way. Don't stink, don't burn plants & 2 days later they took right off. Here's a link to it, they sent me the dry concentrate You can get it from Lindeberg too, with free shipping if you order $40.00 or more Here is a link that might be useful: concentrated seaweed extract...See MoreWhy not store diluted fish/kelp emulsion?
Comments (10)Rhizo, why I wouldn’t necessarily follow the mfg’s directions is a fair question. For one thing, I’d overlooked the warning, so had been doing it contrary to those directions, storing for a limited time, without apparent problems, emphasis on “apparent.” And, too, I’m happier to follow a general direction like this when I know why I'm doing it; as much as anything it was a matter of curiosity. I appreciate all the responses here. Kimmq's reference to phosphoric acid (which would adjust the pH) was on point, I think. In any case, let me add the response I received from Neptune’s Harvest, which may be of interest to those following this thread: ***We stabilize the Fish to a pH of 3.5 to keep it from rotting and going bad. Once you add water the pH goes up, and if you don’t use it right up it will be begin to rot. It will work fine, but it will stink to high heaven. I like to put it this way. How long would you leave a piece of fish on your kitchen table before cooking it? That is the same amount of time you can leave the Fish diluted, without stinking you out.*** My takeaway: Stored diluted emulsion will work fine, but will in short order begin to stink. Also, products sold as pre-diluted will presumably have their pH adjusted accordingly. Gary...See Moreseil zone 6b MI
