Roses For South Florida

Hi All
I have recently been bitten by the rose bug (about 2 years ago with the purchase of my first rose Belinda's Dream). And I'd really like to know which roses have done well for you in the deep south and Florida. I'm not too into OGR because they get huge and I don't have the space. But I do like them and if you have some that stay small I'd love to know.
I grow most of my roses in pots because my yard is mostly paved. I'd really like to know which roses have been the most disease resistant (I'm moving towards a no spray garden) and which have been the best bloomers. I love Austins and shrub roses as well as floribundas and HT anything I can grow in a planter would be good.
So far I have had luck with:
Gold Medal, Belinda's Dream (she is a dream), Olympiad, Love, Queen Elizabeth, Chicago Peace (so far), Mr. Lincoln (got better with age), Josephs coat (ditto), About Face, Korde's Lions Fairy Tale and Mandarin Ice (superb!), Polonaise, Quietness (also great!), Julia Child, Perfume Delight & All American Beauty (both acceptable, not amazing), Huntington Rose (austin, great bloomer pictured below), Jubilee celebration (ditto), Alnwick Rose and Wolerton Old Hall (great BS resistance and fragrance), Queen Of Sweden (slow bloomer but excellent BS resistance) Golden Princess (buck) and Smart & Sassy (she's still new but so far so good). Iceberg and pink iceberg have also done well for me as well as my OGR Duchess De Brabant (I do like her a lot).

What a gorgeous picture! Of the old roses, polyanthas (at least some of them) do stay small and can easily be grown in pots. Little White Pet is an excellent one, but there are many others. Their flowers are also on the small side, but there will be many of them. Some of the early hybrid teas are also smaller plants (La France being a lovely and very fragrant example) that you might try in pots.

Elina (yellow), older HT loves the heat, Pink Pet, White Pet, Clotilde Soupert, and Leonie Lamesch. Ducher (white) has stayed relatively small for me. Elina is on Fortuniana, but the others are own-root. Red cascade does as the name suggests, but it will spill out of the pot and then start crawling across the ground unless you keep it pruned. All of these are very healthy here.

I have, at various times, had 4 different plants of Le Vesuve. They all were own root, and I live in the SF Bay Area in No Calif. All of them grew rapidly until they reached a size of about 7-8 feet tall and 7-8 feet wide and about 6 feet deep. Need suggestions for nursery's that stock roses in South Florida

I am from South Florida. I just purchased some roses from Cool Roses in West Palm Beach. I did not know about them until someone on this website posted about a sale they were having. I am very pleased with my selection. The people there are very nice and informative. They have a nice selection of roses. I think they said they were closing down for the summer or that their hours would be different for the summer. You might want to call before you go. Also their website DOSE NOT reflect all of the selection that they have. They have so many more roses. If there is something you wish to purchase particularly you might want to call and ask if they have it. However, I was pleasantly pleased .... all most overwhelmed.... by their selection at the sale. I was expecting to find only the roses on their website.

These are of the same Mode of Action Group so rotating them makes no sense from the point of view of resistance management. Similarly with the 2 out of the 3 of the fungicides you are 'rotating' (tebuconazole and triticonazole) both of them are triazoles in the same Mode of Action Group. In addition you are also regulalrly using spinosad which does result in resistance build up. On top of that you are using a pyrethroid insecticide once and mancozeb fungicide twice. The only drastic ingredient out of the ones you're using which does not supposedly suffer from resistance buildup is mancozeb. With regards to malathion, fwiw it's banned in the EU.

My Rosette Delizy is planted between two Le Vesuve which have not very shapely and rather blowsy blooms. In contrast my RD doesn't really have messy blooms except for the ones that need to be deadheaded. For me it's a good rose in every way, and in your zone may be better than the other two, which like more of a cool winter, I believe. I tried to grow Mme. Pierre Oger without much success years ago, when it was still cooler than it is now.
