Calling All Canadians!!

Wow, you just never know what google will bring you. Just now I was attempting to untangle the polygonum/persicaria/falopia naming mess in my head, when, look what I found!

cool, you are being silly? i'm just guessing that someone out there has received this kind of knowledge and i was hoping that some Canadians might chip in about the topic, since the book is about peoples from canada.

The Rose show continues next weekend, also. I am sorry that I missed the show on the 21st. I would have liked to have gone. Box of seeds 2012 Anyone?

Cdnfruit, you would actually be getting the seeds from Anna, come to think of it. You'll have to email her with your address. Rideau, the "box" is actually a large padded envelope. The original box got pretty tattered and someone transferred the seeds to an envelope. This time i got a size larger envelope hoping maybe we could make it pass as an envelope not a package at the PO - no such luck! You'll have to email Anna or Cdnfruit, seeing as Anna gets it next and she's supposed to pass it on to Cdnfruit. It heads to BC after that, so maybe you could make arrangements to get it after Anna and pass it along to Cdnfruit after. It's up to you guys. :)

I'm glad to hear all is cool with you to Sharon and all of our other friends north of the 49th. I have to say I feel for those working and or living in downtown Toronto area with the summit meetings going on. I'm sure it will be a PIA for them more so than this quake. Not mocking or anything bad towards Toronto or their test of security today. I know it's a big deal to host these events.... to me it would be easier to have them in a more remote area away from major poplulations/traffic areas. I would think security would be easier too. Maybe it's just me??? but it does make sense to me in so many ways. Again, glad to hear/read that everyone is okay. David

Mindy, you might not be aware that the term First Nations refers to only the Aboriginal people of Canada - the Metis, the Inuit, maybe a few more tribes but they make up a very small percentage of Canadians... so most of us don't know any First Nations people, let alone stuff about what they eat..

Hi Mindy,
Hubbys grandmother was 1/2 Mi'kmiq (We have a local band of First Nations people)...there are several bands in Nova Scotia but He doesn't remember any traditional cooking. I find it strange that they don't do more in the schools to teach about First Nations People when they have the resources right there. There is a cooking show on tv about First Nations cooking its called "Cooking with the Wolf man" and I believe he covers a variety of different cultural recipes that are based on First Nations.

sue, that is soooo cool about the tv show. that would be so fascinating. now i have the challenge of getting access to it!
Maybe I have misunderstood the First Nations name- i thought it referred to all indigenous peoples of canada.
( We've visited B.C. and collected inuit pieces for 35 yrs, so maybe that's how i got confused, if i did) Would youall educate me on that? Appreciate it

First Nations is the term for the peoples (and their decendants) that were here before the European and other settlers arrived in North America.

These peoples currently make up approx 3% of the total Canadian population -- the rest having other ancestries (especially British, French and other European). So, as Pam pointed out, the First Nations is still quite a small subset of our population, even here in B.C. (I think in the 2006 census First Nations accounted for 3.5% of the total number of people living in B.C.).

oh good, then i did understand correctly. pam made me think there was another moniker.
I think many canadians are used to meeting americans that are very uneducated about canada, its geography, history, cultures.(But i AIN'T one of those them)
I certainly know that First Nations people are a small % of the larger populace, but I was still hoping some GWers would know about my question,like sue!
i'm happy to be learning all this
