HFGH Wind Solution

Just thought I'd give back to so many that have helped me get my HFGH functional. I live in central PA and like most areas wind is a big problem with this GH. I purchased a 12x16 shade cloth this past spring for relief from the heat. It not only helps with the heat but it has eliminated my wind problem. The cloth is draped about 2/3's of the way down each side and attached to the base with bungee cords and eye hooks. The bungee cords allow the cloth to move slightly to prevent damage in the wind. The big contribution is that the cloth kind of locks the entire unit down. I have been out in 20 degree temps reattaching panels, not a lot of fun. Below is some pics. Does your GH face East?

Do you just not open the roof vents since you have vent fans?

May we peek inside?

It's side wall, pic 3, faces north. I haven't opened the vents at all, I have a thermo controlled rear vent and a fan on the front. I'll post pics of the inside, not much right now in that it is empty.

Recently we had a storm that broke two of our trellis off at ground level up rooted trees but NO damage to our 10x12 HFGH. This is the 4th season of growing plants from seeds in it and the panels show no sign of yellowing or deterioration. Only problem is with vent motor I have had trouble with electric vent motors being junk. I bought it from IGC.

Hello Dale, I'd also enjoy seeing photos of your greenhouse! Good heavens, 80mph gusts is a very impressive wind speed to survive. We have bad winds here, but I am a bit relieved that my 10x12 has not been tested to that degree yet! With the windows open and the fan off in windy conditions this would be normal unless you had a solenoid that would open the shutters when the fan comes on and hold them shut otherwise. With the windows shut you need to get some caulk and foam and get to work cause your house leaks like a piece of swiss cheese.

Yep that is how I had my shade cloth this summer but I took it off a month ago because it will prevent snow from sliding off the roof
My 10x12 HFGH has survived 80 mph winds but mine is in a location where it has a good wind break
Soon will be going into it's 4th season no problems so far.
