pnbrown's advice is right on - nothing fresh belongs in the garden. While some root crops will tolerate fresh, it isn't recommended because of the associated health and food safety aspects. I think mammal dung is a very interesting subject. Everyone has seen a dog pile sit and petrify in a lawn or field, but probably not many have watched it return naturally to the soil. I did some watching several years ago. I hesitate to call it experiments because all I did was observe the changes. All my dogs are both inherently averse to pooping within miles of where they eat (apparently a characteristic of chow mixed dogs) and are trained as much as practical to poop anywhere but the lawn. However when the dogs get older, sometimes they just go in the lawn. That happened several years ago with Tyler. He started pooping in my organic lawn. I tried a few things to see if I could speed up the decomposition process. Without dwelling on the myriad results, simply leaving them alone with plenty of moisture seemed to allow them to return to "dirt" in four days. One thing that probably affected my results was that it was winter and we had taken Tyler off of heartworm meds for his last few months. Heartworm meds persist through digestion and become insecticide in the dung. Thus parasites should be no problem in either case. Either the dung itself will kill the parasites or the dung processing critters will decompose the pile before the parasites have a chance to mature. Anyway I thought it was interesting that in four days, without heartworm meds, I could not find the dog piles at all (without my little flags).

I'm a little odd but I'd take it all out to one place in the pasture and see what happens over the course of a week. Flies and pill bugs are masters at decomposing dog waste. If you can develop a population of those, you should not need anything else. My dogs seem to have an aversion for pooping in their own yard. We walk them every day and they poop in a green area down the road; but several years ago one of our dogs got sick and did poop in the yard. I decided to watch and see what happened. In four days you could not tell where she had pooped. In three days you can step on it and it no longer sticks to your shoe (accidentally discovered this). Then on the fourth day it is completely melted back down into the surface. The green area where we walk the dogs probably sees 100 dogs per day and you'd have trouble finding a pile older than a few days. Once you get the right biology in there, the piles just disappear. I also watched the flies. They were very tiny, flew in to the poop, and left the area. They were not house flies but seemed to be dung specialists.

If you compost well the fecal matter from non diseased dogs, humans or cats, then the risk of contracting a disease is virtually nil. I compost my dogs' waste and have yet to have a problem after hot composting it and aging it well. No smell and no problems and I also make use of Milorganite which is heat sterlized human waste from Milwaukee's sewer system that is used on almost every golf course in the US.
