2 HFGH 10X12 Now Together

I had one 10X12 and wanted more room. So I desided to get another one and put them together. Husband thought that I was nuts. He helped me move the first one up fromt in the flower bed. Helped me with the frame and said that's it. It was up to me.

So I now have then together and they look great. No polycarbonate in them yet because I have to much other work to do.

Have landscape fabric and gravel on floor. Am now working on benches.

Tried to post pictures but it didn"t work for me, so will try again later.

Just wanted to let you know that I got this far.

Hi funnylady,

Your name should be lucklady...... My Fiance would strangle me if I asked for another one. We lost a window a couple days ago. We had 50 mph wind gusts and were under a wind advisory. Fiance thinks it is fixable. After all the modifications we did to it. What are you going to do with all that room and in florida a nice zone to live and grow plants in. You are lucky..... Barb

Barb, oh no! was it a wall panel or a roof window that you lost? If a wall panel, was it attached with a screw anywhere? I hope it didn't do too much damage.

COOL! I found the black bubble wrap clips at ACF, they're about one third of the way down on this page, if anyone wants to see them. I have looked at the bubble wrap clips that Charley's sells, but I wasn't loving their bright green color. I like these better and they're more versatile with the ring for hanging things. I read that items compatible with Juliana greenhouses are also compatible with Harbor Freight. I'm really glad to know about these! That's also a good idea to cut that slotted track material for the Rubbermaid shelf brackets to shorter lengths...to reduce the cost. So the green screen material hangs down in a flap over your doorway when the doors are open? I do the same thing with a flap of Aluminet shade cloth, to keep west sun out, and to make sure none of my pesky Thrashers wander in there and start pecking plants. I don't have squirrels tossing bark around, but these birds leave my succulents with permanent tattooes and holes. That makes me very grumpy, so the flap of shadecloth is extra insurance. Our German Shepherd has gotten very good at flipping it out the way with his nose when he wants in. :-) Your plants look great Carol. Nice to get a feel for what it would be like to stand in a 10x24 Harbor Freight GH...looooong.

Vicki, tell your hubby not to be such a nitpicker. The guy who levels the area can go a little bit over sized, and then it can be taken care of when you back fill to the size of the foundation. As far as the need for a true foundation, it looks like to me that this GH does not really require it. My recommendation is, unless you want to put it onto a poured concrete or laid concrete block foundation (which might require you to have a building permit) just dig holes at the corners, and about every two to three feet along the sides (on the inside) and set treated wood posts at least three feet deep. Then attach your treated two by eight base frame to it. I don't have one of these GH's yet, but hopefully someone who does will send you the dimensions from thiers. If not, open the box and find the instruction sheet. (If worse comes to worse, you may have to measure your base plates. I've bought Harbor Freight stuff in the past, and know first hand how "good" thier instructions are.) Kevin

That is a nice link you posted there. I am sory but I do belive the webpage title greenhouse.gov actually means "green"-house as in energy efficent not Greenhouse for storing/growing plants. The only place I read where they say not to insulate the floor was if I was trying to cool the house. As I said earlier I am using this greenhouse for winter protection. The R values that they use in Austraila are measured differently then here. I can only imagin that R 1.5 would be close to the same as our R 13 for exterior walls and R 30 is normal for cielings here but they call it R 2. Below is from the Department of Energy link..... Insulation Priorities It is most important to: Insulate your attic to the recommended level, including the attic door, or hatch cover. Provide the recommended level of insulation under floors above unheated spaces, around walls in a heated basement or unventilated crawl space, and on the edges of slabs-on-grade. Use the recommended levels of insulation for exterior walls for new house construction. Here's some more pictures of the bracing. As you can see the weather is better today so I was able to work. Tonight after the kids go to bed I'll seal the ends of the panels with caulk so they can cure. This is the side wall where the corner braces and side wall braces connect. They are anchored at the top of three center most studs. Showing where the ones connect on the back wall And a closer view on the back wall. Bracing this wall is mandatory as far as I can tell. Far too much give in it as designed. This thing is rock solid now. Its going to take some major wind to hurt it. I'm a huge fan of this green house and the design (for the most part). The track design to hold the bolts makes adding stuff down the road super easy. I'm already thinking of adding bolts to let me attach shade cloth to the inside of the roof. Grommets in the shade cloth and fender washers would allow you to attach the cloth right to the ceiling snugly. The back wall at the peak is just begging for a fan too. I won't caulk the panels in so I can take them out to add things to the structure as needed. Oh the options are endless!!!!!!!

HI Sherry,

We modified according to your blog. The greenhouse withstood 50 mph gusts thanks to you and others. We did not have the windows bungied down and have no doors yet. I think the wind came in and picked the window up and twisted it. TOOK OUT A BOLT. Can you believe that. I should go and take a picture. I think I will and post it. The greenhouse is protected. Funnylady I hope you dont have this happen to you. Goodluck with your biggggg GH. barb

I'm wondering about what you went through putting up your SECOND GH...I'm struggling to get ONE up...I guess I'm being wimpy...but I'd love to hear how long it took, if you had help etc.

You are indeed a lucky lady. With a GH that size you should be in good shape for a few years... before you need to expand again. :) My Rion looked so big at 8X16' until I started carrying in the plants.....

After the base was done and squared the second time. (DH doesn't like it when I check his work. But how can I work if it's not right.) It only took me one day. But I have a lot of experience on putting GH together. This is the 5th one. The first one was ACF, it was the large "Little GH". It taught me a lot and lasted through all the hurricans a few years ago. After that I got a Julian 7X9. Still have that. Two years ago I got the 6X8 HFGH, still have that.
Last year I got the first 10X12 HFGH. Liked how high it was so deside to try to put two together when the weather cooled down. Can't add anymore, no more room.

greenhouser, your greenhouse is very nice, but in my opinion You have your bubble wrap on backwards. The bubbles go against the glass(or poly). You need to create a dead air space. This is what causes it to gain and retain the heat and to keep the cold sweat off the glass.
If you will look at hoop houses with the double plastic layer with air blowing inbetween and at the poly insulated panels you will understand. You need the dead air space just like insulated house windows.

It may appear the bubbles are on the outside but they are on the INSIDE, facing the polycarb, creating a dead air space. You're seeing the sun shining through them.
