Has anyone ever accused you of being a seducer morden man? Those are lovely. DA may still be working out the kinks on growth and health issues, but his blooms are to die for. I succumbed to your persuasive pictures earlier and bought Queen of Sweden and so far it's been surprisingly healthy without spray (rain for 21 days straight put the whammy on fungicides). However I hope I have the right rose as it sure is not thornless. Not bad like Tamora, but it definitely has thorns.

The DA new introductions shown at Chelsea are often breathtakingly mouth-watering. But where can we US gardener's ever buy them?

Thanks, Jana, also for the photos of your absolutely stunning ramblers, wow! Beales also had Paul's Himalayan Musk, what a beauty! I wish it repeated though. Does Excelsea repeat? Thanks, George. I bribed customs - just kidding! Well, we now live in Cambridge, England, and so do our roses. So this was only a short trip for us to London. Transporting the potted roses, including the two climbers, with taxis and trains was however a bit tricky. At King's Cross train station I very nearly scratched a few people by inadvertantly waving around the lanky Sir Paul Smith. Entering MacDo there to change our little one's diapers proved to be another challenge. Imagine surprise howls at the doorstep - but at least our baby didn't get scratched ;-). Should we come back to the US, we will have to leave our roses behind and start from scratch - again. Cheers, Andrea

Jana, thanks for the info on Tantau's Nostalgic series. I'll take a look at Piano. I actually also got a Chippendale this spring, and mine has not bloomed yet either, so I guess we can compare notes later this year. I also remember looking at Heidi Klum, so any more info and pics on yours will certainly be appreciated. Princess Alexandra of Kent is not that vivid, but of a deeper pink with a very distinct smoky salmon tint, quite nice actually. Lots of petals in nice formation, it looks superb when it slowly unfolds. It lasts quite well on the bush and in the vase too. I really like its scent, old rose with tea, I'd say. Young Lycidas is of a very vivid color, but I'd put him more into the purple-cerise group. Toward the end his huge blooms fade into a nice soft mauve. And the fragrance is really superb. Claire Austin, now that's a very very vigorous, extremely healthy rose (basically no BS in my no-spray garden), and a very good bloomer too so far. Looks like it wants to be a climber. Its flowers open light lemon fading to white or cream white, with a complex myrrhy scent, not too bad. It blooms in clusters and the blooms are very cup shaped. It's pretty, but I think it just looks a little pale somehow, perhaps because it doesn't quite have the radiant quality of say, Margaret Merrill or even Fair Bianca, and the blooms tend to not quite fully open, staying cupped pretty much until the petals drop. Currently, mine is a tall arching shrub (in its second year with me), but I think it'll look better with some support as a climber, perhaps next to a dark red rose like WS2K. Anyway, so far it has proven to be an excellent garden rose, so I can certainly recommend it. Roselovr, sounds all very good, especially if you're already familiar and comfortable with Nikon and perhaps own some Nikon glass already - did you get the D5000? Actually you could do both, although the roses at Kew weren't fully out. Went to Chelsea for the first time. It was unbelievable! We spent 6 hours there and never felt rushed or jostled. Had a wonderful lunch and a Pims! The veggie displays are so unique. Overhead walkways give a great view. We joined the RHS so we could go on Members only day. Worth the $60 fee as you also get a year's subscription to the RHS magazine. A big plus on Chelsea, No childen under 5 which means NO baby buggies!! A highlight was meeting Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie Dimmock of Ground Force. Even had a photo with them! Chelsea is a huge event, almost like the Super Bowl here. Every night there would be an hour long day's highlights on TV. Having been to England before, we planned our own trip. We were there for 10 days, long enough to do whatever we wanted. Less expensive and most leisurely than a tour and you have some awesome resturants in the Kensington area where we stayed, overlooking Kensington Palace. Took the tube, bus and train everywhere with a travel pass, another great bargain. Get the one that allows use before 9:30am. Kensington is a great central location and only one unpacking!! Went to other gardens, Sissinghurst, Kew etc using discount admission on our RHS membership. We went to Hampton Court, a beautiful town in Richmond. Next time I'd like to go to that flower show which is in July, so that might be a better time for you. Have fun, I'm sure you will!

Diane...yes I liked the Tea table too, all those cakes... I think fragrancenutter is here on holiday right now... lucky with the weather too, it's quite nice at the moment, so I shall definitely look in on that thread, thanks for alerting me... Dave.... yes, I can't wait for James to start blooming here... I was impressed with the photos of it.. Patty... yes all our roses are grafted, we don't have own root roses, unless we import them.. I've never noticed rmv, but it may exist, I'm not sure about that... sometimes I see a bit of yellow mottling on some leaves, but not much... never quite sure what it is, perhaps some deficiency... I'm not sure The Queen is much into gardening, despite the impressions given... she's a horsey person, especially breeding and racing... that's her thing.. as it was with her mother... Glad you liked the pics... I must check out that thread today..

Lady of Shallot looks awfully pretty. I'm a sucker for those big cupped blooms. Of course, I'm still waiting for Munstead Wood so I don't expect to get any of these new ones anytime soon.

Why did you post these? I have no room left. Like Maryl, I succumbed to your Well Being pics (mine is blooming right now--so beautiful), but that was the last open spot in my garden!

Actually, I'd dig up the whole back yard and plant more roses, but years ago the telephone company buried their cable right through our back yards, so I have to leave part of the yard alone--especially since I no longer remember exactly where they buried the cable.

But that Wedgwood Rose has me panting. I want, I want. If I don't have room for a smaller rose, how am I going to fit in a big "rangy" rose like Wedgwood. Oh, life is hard!

I am not buying any more Austins unless they are guaranteed to survive the winter in zone 5.

Wow Morden Man, thank you for this post. How wonderful for you to get to the Chelsea Flower Show! I am a Wedgwood girl. Our B&B was called Wedgwood House B&B. Our home is still Wedgwood House. My rose blog is Wedgwood House and Gardens - our house is white and Wedgwood Blue:) and my mum when visiting from England was tired of her Jasper Wedgwood collection and hauled it all out to me in a suitcase one year - hence, the reason it all started. Now I cannot wait for this WEDGWOOD ROSE. Also, I love to see everyone spelling it right Wedgwood (without the "e" in the middle) - Just some Pauline trivia! :) But thank you Morden Man, I still would like to order direct to David Austin's. I believe finally this is offered in Canada! I do not have any of the latest ones! But thanks for the reminder that I should.
