Verbena bonariensis? Vervain?

For several years I grew a plant that I thought was Verbena bonariensis. It grew up to 4' tall, was prone to powdery mildew, reseeded somewhat, and returned each year from the mother plants. The flowers were a pinkish-lavender and bloomed in sort of a round formation.

Now I am starting new gardens on a new property. I have looked at a couple of garden centers for "tall verbena," and the plant they are selling is called Vervain. There's a 5' version and a 2' version. Compared to Verbena bonariensis, the foliage is rougher, and the flowers are more blue in color and more spiky in shape. The plants woman at one nursery insisted the Vervain is the same as Verbena bonariensis.

To me, these are not the same plant, but now I have the Vervain. What can I expect from it? Does it overwinter in zone 6? Is powdery mildew a problem? Does it become bushier if I pinch it back? Does deadheading prolong blooms? Is it popular with butterflies? Thanks!
