Solexx Twin Wall Greenhouse Glazing

I have never posted in a forum like this before, but I often read them for gathering information and educating myself. It came to my attention on Monday, October 16th, that someone had created an account under MY name, and proceeded to write statements that I would never make and do not agree with. This person decided to wage a cowardly attack on Solexx and myself in a public forum.

This fraud created an account on Yahoo, and subsequently the Garden Web, using my name and personal information without my knowledge.

The post was made on Friday, October 13th, and stated that Solexx was having 'warranty issues' and that the company was not going to honor customer warranties anymore. They also went so far as to say 'the plastic will fall apart as soon as it's outside'. That could not be further from the truth.

Solexx has actually INCREASED its warranty from 6 years to 8 years due to the product holding up so well in all types of conditions. Solexx is far more user-friendly than polycarbonate due to its flexibility which makes it shatterproof, you seal the open-fluted ends so it insulates and keeps water out which polycarbonate doesnÂt do - so even though the polycarbonate is clear at first it doesnÂt stay that way because of all the condensation inside the panels. (That also creates ideal conditions for mold & mildew.) Solexx also has their UV protection in the composition of the polyethylene so you get the great UV protection no matter how you apply the Solexx. That also means the UV protection will never scratch, wear, or sluff off the paneling.

My parents have a Solexx greenhouse, and have been enjoying their delicious tomatoes since March of 2006. Yes, ripe tomatoes in March that didn't come from a store! They would be happy to answer any questions about their greenhouse, through me, if anyone has specifics they would like addressed.

The Greenhouse Catalog, Farm Wholesale, and I firmly stand behind Solexx and its 8 year warranty. I personally have talked with people who have had their Solexx greenhouses up and running for over 15 years, and are still doing extremely well.

I have noticed that most people into gardening are intelligent and down to earth, so I invite you to investigate, do research and draw your own conclusions from the facts (not just opinions from people who have never used Solexx) on Solexx Greenhouse Glazing.

Don't know what you're talking about. I did a search here in this forum, for "Kelli", and do not find any other posting you are referring to.

The libelous posting by the first fake "Kelli" was removed by the moderators a couple of days after it first appeared. The person claimed to have a "an unnamed source" and was obviously trashing the Solexx panels for their own weird reasons. I'm glad to hear this response from the real Kelli.

No, the I found the 100 gallon tank basically free at a garage sale, and figured I'd just throw it in under my workbench for thermal mass. Then it occurred to me that maybe I could raise Tilapia in it? I'd probably have to heat it with some large aquarium heaters, but then the heat just escapes into the greenhouse right? We'll see how that goes... New question for everyone: I'm realizing now that I did not account for heat/air circulation within the greenhouse (when the vents are closed) and what a temp difference there is between the peak and the ground - I need to pull that heat down somehow. I don't really want to take up valuable roof space (I'm planning on hanging plants) with a large ceiling or even rotating fan for circulation, so my plan is this: Run a couple 6-inch round ducts/PVC pipes along the rafters, from the peak down to the ground on the opposite side (single-sloped roof - see pic link), and install inline duct fans in each to suck the air from the peak down. With each inline fan rated at 160 CFM (320 CFM total), and a greenhouse size of 1536 CF, this should circulate the entire structure in about 5 minutes (in theory). One day I'd like to perhaps dig out my planting beds and install a base of rock/gravel and run the heated air through that to better store heat, but that's not this year... Questions: 1) Where along the ducts/pipes is the optimal place to install the inline fans? Top (pushing air down), bottom (pulling air down) or middle? 2) I've thought it might be nice to instead of simply having an open end at each duct/pipe that simply draws and exhausts air at a single point, that it might be better to install a perpendicular pipe at each end, that ran the length of the greenhouse, and was drilled with large holes that would more evenly draw and exhaust the air. However, will this create to much airflow "resistance", and dramatically reduce the circulation rate? I suppose I could always up the duct/pipe size and fans to compensate, but you gotta draw a line somewhere... 3) Anyone ever done anything like this? cembh, I'm not sure what you mean by "the same greehouse" as the materials I mentioned in the post that started the thread are not "plans" but details of critical construction/installation steps for twin or triple wall polycarbonate. Perhaps you both are referring to the Better Homes & Gardens plans I've not seen. You might want to have your construction guys check the Sundance info to be sure they don't inadvertently close up the gaps on the twin wall too tight. Othewise, as I'm sure you've already seen, each person's GH adventure takes a slightly different course. I'm still at the "stucco and paint the block knee wall" stage but have been taking progress photos...I plan to post them once the walls are up.

Do you have heavy thunderstorms with hail and high winds? Do your nite time temps stay above 40 F? If the answer is yes then use Lexan Corrugated on the roof. This gh covering allows more sunlight to get thru 90% and is indestructable unless a tornado sends a sharp ended branch or 2x4 at the gh. It can handle very large hail. It is easier to attach than twin wall as well, no need for pvc or aluminum connectors which can be $$$. It is stronger than twin wall and if hit by hail will not dimple. I have hit a panel as hard as I could with a large rubber mallet (like hail) and no damage was done it simply snapped back into it's original form. Twin wall can be crushed. Sharp objects will penetrate but they will penetrate a house wall as well. I thought about this after I posted last night. First of all, What personal interest do you have that you feel you need to attack my post? Second, I posted pictures. I never claimed to be a journalist doing a news report on GH glazing. This current trend of advocating the really expensive stuff is once again detrimental to encouraging people to try to build their own greenhouse. Sounds as though YOU have the bias. I simply posted pictures. Thought I was helping out the forum. I didn't show the Polycarbonate with a bend in it, because you CAN'T bend it. Sorry, but I tried. Go attack someone else. Let's get back ot the original Thread. If you have a problem with the facts, post differentiating facts of your own. Attack the product, not me. That is since you feel the need to be so aggressive. You're right I didn't see fiberglass the second time I read it, sorry, must have seen something that wasn't there.

Thank you, ddsack, you said it correctly. We contacted the Garden Web directly and informed them of the situation, and they removed the post immediately. I appreciate them taking it seriously and acting so promptly since obviously many people saw the post in the couple of days it was listed.

Nathanhurst, I'm afraid I don't understand the term 'viral advertising', would you be so kind as to educate me? :)

I've learned a lot from the forums on the Garden Web and look forward to learning more every day.

Thanks for the clarificaion Kelly. I saw the original post and thought it was strange--poorly written and lacking information, but I was a bit worried about my greenhouse. I've used several greenhouses (made from different materials) and I really like the Solexx greenhouse so I'm glad that I don't have to worry about it.

I'm planning to use the Solexx panles to cover a custom greenhouse this spring. The space is an odd shape so it will be a unique project. The size will be roughly 5ft wide and 20ft long. I'm hoping the panels will bend easily around the corners because there will be a lot of them! Any advice?

You're welcome for the clarification. That was my biggest fear when I saw that original post, was that many Solexx owners would be caused undue worry about their greenhouses. No worries, you'll be well taken care of. :)

That's great that you're happy with the Solexx and want to use it on your custom structure. Solexx is very easy to bend around corners, and there are a couple of different ways to do that depending on how you're applying the Solexx on your structure. You can simply score one side of the Solexx paneling (not actually cutting through the plastic but just sort of denting it) and then bend the panel before putting it on the structure.
