Thanks for reminding me Sylvia!

Emptied my compost collector (old margarita bucket). There were various veggie scraps and icky lettuce, eggshells, coffee grounds plus filters and a couple handfuls of shredded oak leaves.

Banana peels, potato skins, some dead leaves and a bit of grass clippings from last year.

Egg shells, coffee grounds, potato scraps, carrot peelings, napkins, paper towels, TP rolls, paper cups, celery ends, banana peels and apple cores, avocado skins

and left the lid open for some self-watering; i.e. it's raining lol

The usual kitchen scraps, 10-15 lbs. of alfalfa meal, 15 lbs. of bunny poo with bedding (partially composted), grass & fall leaves from first mowing of the season, small amount of paper plates and paper towels. My pile (in an Earth Machine) is stinky. Slight amonia smell. Never had a pile smell that sour. Things seem pretty warm in there. So I will ignore the smell.

Bananna peels, orance rind, asparagus ends, apple cores, dill stems, old lettuce leaves, potato peels, strawberry tops. Need to stop at the coffee shop and get some coffee grounds

My first real compost pile, but I can't figure out how to get finished material out - as I keep adding fresh material in. (pile was started last fall, Then I received a stainless steel compost pail for Christmas (so my wife would let me have it in the kitchen :-)). Maybe I need to start another pile somewhere and let this one finish??? Any advice?

PS. lots of nice worms and rollie pollies.

It was a scary thing-

Max, my big "side-of-the-road" dog, knocked an empty mayonnaise jar off the cabinet & stepped on it, jamming the broken edge deeply into the back of his leg just above the pad.

Really, seriously, I thought he was going to bleed to death.

but my neighbor told me to pack the wound with flour, bind it tight, & hurry to the vet.

One stitch & a whole bunch of gauze pads later, Max is fine, & the vet thinks my neighbor is a resourceful guy!

Can I add remnants from a burn pile to my compost pile? I'm not sure if it'll throw the PH off or what. But it seems like the ashy dirt mix that I have in the burn pile would be a good addition to the compost pile. No?

this is what "I'D" do...

i would scoop out the ashy chard stuff in to a bucket add water and a good source of nitro like chicken poop ...
let it sit a day or 2 then with a garden fork scoop out the charcoal looking stuff, add it to my hot pile and dump the " ashy silty stuff" "
around the perimeter of my garden... i hear slugs don;t like it.
don't take my word for it!!!,

but that is what i do.
some one more knowledgeable will know better.

We forgot to put the cover on our copper burn bowl and it filled with rain water. So I dumped the sopping mess of ashes into the compost pile. It was a messy job, but it had to be done.

I had the most interesting discovery yesterday.
I was cleaning out my garage and found a box of stuff that must have been from two thanksgivings ago (so that is 17 months ago). IN this box were some photos, notes and memos and a casserole dish that thought was lost forever.

The dish had leftovers in it...from two thanksgivings ago. I must have put it in the box, set it down on the shelf in the garage and forgot where I put it.

Anyway, whatever food had been in that dish had completely decomposed to an unrecognizable blob of brown goo. It smelled horrific (anaerobic of course) but was amazing to me. I dumped the blob into my compost pile and am now soaking the dish in bleach and dishsoap.

I think it may have either been dressing or sweet potato casserole... just thinking about what I may have brought to dinner...

I'm not sure if I will ever be able to use that dish again though.

Finally nabbed some coffee grounds at SB, my fourth try. They are popular this time of year! Also, like others above,

I wasn't entirely thrilled by the donation of a blue-dyed hard-boiled Easter egg. (How many weeks ago was Easter?) But I stomped it, and shoved it in the middle of the pile.

henhouse junk (little bit of poo, little bit of discarded feed, little bit of straw)

loaded it up, opened the car windows, & took it to my hungry compost pile

4 kitchen bags of shredded paper from a CPA office;
she said she has tons of that stuff, promised to call when she gets another batch!

Well, thanks, sylvia, I take that as a compliment. Actually, she's volunteered her scraps...the only problem is I DON'T WANT TO SHARE ANY OF MY LOVELY COMPOST with her. Maybe THAT makes me a real whacko!
She actually brought home a bag of stuff from her daughters house in Kansas last month to dump in...I have interstate compost, nah,nah!
