Everything I have read says that it is best to insulate the North side of the greenhouse. That depends upon what you're going to do with the greenhouse. Are you hoping to grow in it year-round? Have you calculated the heating costs? I put a link below that will help. I think you'll find that even with one insulated wall, your heat will still escape rapidly through the non-insulated portion. Whether it's windows or plastic, the r-value of the clear material will be very low. Also, roll-up sides work much better when two opposing sides can be opened, so as to make a cross breeze. There are 2 logical solutions to your problem. You can purchase what i beleive are called "Kicker bars" that are screwed into your baseboard every 8-12'. These serve to catch the pipe as it is lowered and guide it into a groove that holds the pipe secure. These bars (usually aluminum plate) stick out about 6-8" from the sides and live up to their name. I never cared for them because I was always walking into them and they will break off. Another solution is to install eye bolts every 8 feet alternatig between baseboard (ground level) and the breast board that you roll up to. Then string a nylon chord or strap up and down through all of the eyes and allow just enough slack that you can easily roll the sides up. If these methods don't prevent the lifting during inflation then my guess is that you don't have enough length to the side curtains to allow the pipe to rest at ground level. I wouldn't replace plastic now to correct the situation but if you get tears in the rollup sides you can cut them off at the breast board wirelock channel and wirelock a new set of just plastic sides to your house.

My hoophouse is pvc but I still utilize roll up side walls. I have 1.25" pvc pipe as my roller if you will. The poly is taped in a couple spots and rolled up about a foot or so before it leaves ground level. I just drilled holes through the poly and pvc pipe and use three inch long sheet rock screws to join it to my base board. If its calm, no wind I'll just put three screws in for the night. Otherwise I batten it right down every four feet. Your Situation my be different (metal pipe/heavy) but I'd design several u shaped channels for the pipe to rest inside of in the closed position. Place one every four ft or so to get a good seal and design a quick clamp or just screw or lag bolt it for the winter. I would not bury anything in the frozen ground! Also, some commercial growers use 2x2" joined with metal as the roller and simply attach it to the base board everynight with two headed nails. Very simple. There is always the what if factor! Rita - I just got a new Farm Tek catalog and it has many different solutions for roll up sides or drop down curtains! The example you mention was an article in Growing For Market...I'm not at home, so can't tell you which edition, but I bet they'd mail you the article if you contacted them.
