Lowe's carries a very sticky 2 sided tape. They also carry a velcro tape. I would try one of those. They're not that expensive and can easily be redone if the moisture loosens them over time.

There is All Weather duct tape now available at places like Lowes or HD. I use it to seal wooden doors shut on my greenhouse when the temps drop very low and also to mend small tears on my pool cover over the greenhouse. It stays in place on the doors for weeks until I tear it off and has permanently mended the pool cover.

I've just covered my greenhouse for the winter too.

I have a couple questions about the pool covers you all are using. I am new to greenhouses I am trying to get mine finished before Winter sets in. ha ha.

Does the sun come through the pool covers? What is the purpose of a pool cover? It sounds like you all are using it for some sort of winter protection. Is it best to cover them from the outside or could I use them across the rafters? Please elaborate.

The greenhouse is built from mostly salvaged windows and doors and gussied up with stained barn board and cedar shingles.
In the late winter to spring months, I start seeds, cuttings and do small divisions of perennials for my yearly plant sale and myself. I have several thousand 3" pots by late May and some later ones. They have all cycled thru the greenhouse, coldframe and holding area outdoors by then.

By this time of year I am bringing in my tropicals like elephant ears, phormiums, banana plants, geraniums etc. and I have a lot of succulents and cacti I keep in it all winter also.

I keep it heated in the winter with a small oil filled space heater on a thermostat to 45-50* at night and it gets to 80-85* during the day when the sun is out.
The solar pool cover is an amazing help with insulation and I got the idea from this forum at few years ago.
During really bitter cold fronts, I'll hang lined curtains and quilts inside on the door ends to keep out the drafts. I bought them at the Goodwill and looked for ones that weren't too garish coloured so I could live with them for a few weeks. The all weather duct tape is handy for sealing the edges of those too. Peels on and off nicely.

Another good sealant for window and doors that will open again come spring is Removable Caulking. You find with other tubes of caulking at the hardware store and use it in a caulking gun. It comes out white but dries clear. I seal all opening windows with except for my automatic roof vent window.

Ladylotus-A pool cover is like a sheet of giant, heavy gauge bubble wrap. It's important to get a CLEAR one, not coloured.
Sunlight does goes thru it, enough that I haven't had any internodal stretch on any of my seedlings or plants in the greenhouse. It acts as insulation for your greenhouse and can make a significant difference in the temperature and heat loss and therefore, your heating bill.
You drape the whole thing over your GH and it is important that you anchor it down somehow or it will sail away to the other side of your state before you know it! You can see in my photo how we screwed the sides to my woodframed GH with strips of wood. The bottom edge is attached with tarp clips that are screwed to the GH with washers.

Ladylotus: My solar cover is called "Diamond Clear". I bought a piece large enough to wrap my 12 X 16 X 12 ft. high GH but it proved too heavy for us to manipulate, so my husband cut it in two pieces that overlap at the top.

I bought my GH last spring, but by the time we got the foundation done and the structure up, sealed, the utilities connected and heater installed, we were tired, so it sat pretty well unused until this spring, when we started on the interior details, but with the solar cover, even with the thermostat turned down to 55 deg., it stayed above 60 most of the winter.

But keeping any reasonably well built polycarb GH warm in winter is easy. It's cooling it in summer that's the real challenge.

Greenhouser: Thank you for the tip. I like the idea of a double faced tape because it wouldn't interfere with the operation of the door. I'll get to Lowe's to buy some.

I still think the ultimate solution for the door on a year round use GH that is opened at least 8 X daily regardless of weather in an area with 100 deg. seasonal temp differences would be a small storm entrance. Now that the GH interior is finally finished, I might offer the designers at BC a challenge to come up with one- but next year.

Our climate here is such we don't need a storm entrance. I also feel the plants get some fresh air when the door is opened briefly to go in or out. Even in mid winter I had to crack the door and open a vent in the HFGH to keep the temps n the 70s during the day. Who is BC?

I will be putting up a 16x20 gh next summer outside of the Nashville area, and I was wondering about making a storm door entrance, but I see you don't have or need one. I' ve been checking the average temps recorded during the winter for the area on weatherunderground.com and I wasn't sure...

If I was going in and out after sundown I would consider it. But once the sun goes down I'm pretty much in the house for the night. When the sun goes behind the trees I go out and shut everything up for the night. I'm about 25 miles southeast of Nashville.

I am looking at a 16x20 gh built by bcgh its called Seymour, and I hope I can bring my little piece of 10b with me! But first I have to sell my house here in Pompano Beach, so we can relocate up there. The theory is to sell the house in late spring or early summer so I can get things done, like buy a house, and build my gh before it gets cold.
I rarely go out after dark myself, so I guess I can save a couple of bucks with no storm entrance.

Greenhouser: BC is BC Greenhouses, in BC Canada; makers of my Cross Country GH. Bombax is planning what I would have liked, but couldn't fit in my garden. It's basically the same GH, but will be 4 ft. wider and longer than mine.

My GH door has a built in sliding screen/storm panel, so if there is any need to bring in cool air, it's quick to change.

However, in Zone 5, just 20 miles inland from Lake Michigan, it can drop below 10 deg. and stay there for weeks and with the door facing north, we get some truly horrific blasts of arctic air in winter, so a storm shelter here, makes perfect sense.

I would definitely not worry about a storm-entrance. At least try one winter without it. It can always be added later.
