Check out Lacosse Technology's Web site. They have good quality wireless temperature sensors, and they are reasonably priced. My unit is still working after 6 years of use.

I have used the model listed below, with 3 remote channels, for over 6 years and all parts still work well. My greenhouse is 130 ft. from the base station and it picks up the signal just fine. The base station does seem to go through batteries in a fairly short time (4 months or so) .

A search for this found one company that claims to have the base unit. Not sure about the remote sensors.

You should take a closer look at the LaCrosse specs. For example, their TX-29U-IT unit handles three sensors.

Thank you all for the inputs.... However, the Oregon Scientific JTR168LR has been discontinued for some time now and the LaCrosse TX-29U-IT is a sensor, not a receiver. I've spent quite some time on the LaCrosse site and haven't found one base station that can handle multiple remote temperature sensors.

The Brookstone unit was a nice bit of kit and inexpensive for its capabilities. Each of the three remotes would report the temp and humidity and the base station would record the daily - and yearly - highs and lows of each. This info is vital to greenhouse operation.

Now on a discussion group in the UK concerning the Oregon Scientific JTR168LR unit, one bloke asked how to open up a non-functional base station. Nothing to lose, eh? Well, he got it to work, so maybe I'll have a go with the Brookstone. I'm usually pretty good at taking things to bits and rebuilding them without any left-over and obviously unnecessary parts. ;-)

I contacted Oregon Scientific inquiring about future availability of their RAR501 unit. Their cryptic reply stated that availability was uncertain.

So...if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd like to hear 'em.

The La Crosse unit is a receiver. It can handle three sensors.It's the one I use. I'm not clear on why you think that's not so.

'cause when you type "LaCrosse TX-29U-IT" into Google (the in-site, LaCrosse search function doesn't work real well), you get various hits for the sender unit that can be used with many LaCrosse base stations. $14 to $19 from Amazon and elsewhere.

That, and "TX" is old radio shorthand for "transmit"....

I use LaCrosse and it's great. I have 1 receiver and 2 wireless sensors. The nice thing about the sensors is that they can record 2 temps each. I also check the temps on my iPad and the receiver emails me when the greenhouse is recording bad temps that I set.

I have been using a Meade TE923W Station for about 2 years now. It can take up to 5 temp/humidity sensors although I have only used 3 at a time. Also has wind, rain, pressure, and time sensors/readouts. And you can set alarms based upon temp.

In general it works well. The only problems I have had are with the UV sensors (which keep dying). Rain gauge is surprisingly accurate (compared well with a manual one I already had).

In general I have been pleased with this station.

Meade...now that's one manufacturer I haven't researched.

But it might be all moot now. After reading the thread about this one guy in the UK who pulled apart his non-functional Oregon Scientific JTR168LR, I figured I'd have a go with the Brookstone. Nothing to lose.... I'm pretty good with "analog" hardware: things with nuts and bolts, like carbureators, starter motors and chain saws but not intimidated by "digital" devices either. I've upgraded/modified/repaired just about every computer I've ever owned.

When it died a few months back, I tried cleaning all the battery contacts and installed new, hot ones. Nada. So I opened it up, hoping to find some obvious problem, like a errant gob of corrosion, a carbonized critter or maybe a broken contact. Nothing obvious, but I hosed the "motherboard" with electrical cleaner, especially the back side that couldn't be seen. Shazam! It works! But I still have only two functional transmitters....

If you do ever need to invest in something new, try Onset Technologies http://www.onsetcomp.com/ They are used a lot by green, high performance houses where they need to monitor humidity and heat levels. They have a lot of options.

Also, there is a new product called WiMotos that is just about to get on the market. They recently had a hugely successful Indiegogo campaign and raised a ton of money to produce their products. What is great about them is they are not WiFi which drains batteries really fast. They use bluetooth instead. They have tons of different options you can use and plan on creating a bunch more. http://www.wimoto.com/

We have LaCrosse temperature and humidity sensors and an Onset Hobo data logger that measures light intensity, humidity, temp, etc. but we have not used it yet because our greenhouse is still under construction. http://www.onsetcomp.com/products/data-loggers/u12-012 We did pledge for the WiMotos and will get four motes whenever they ship. Unfortunately, we are spread across three different types of data logging equipment and not sure which we want to fully commit to. -They all have their advantages and shortcomings. We'll try them all out and let you know what we find out once our greenhouse is in full swing. It would be great if they were compatible enough that we could use all three different brands and bring the data into one central logging program.

FYI, Note that the LaCrosse TX-29U-IT IS a transmitting remote unit. However the receiving unit on the page referenced earlier is Model WS-9160U-IT Wireless Weather Station (http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/9160/index.php)

The WS-9160U-IT does handle multiple TX-29U-IT units
