Hi everyone - I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of the greenhouse. I got such great information and help earlier on, and wanted y'all to see the fruits of our efforts.

Here are some pictures of the inside. I have blooming gardenia, plumeria, and citrus, and the smell is overwhelming (but simply magnificent)!

It's been so much fun having the GH, and I heartily recommend it to anyone with the time and money. Do I recommend the Rion? Not really. It was incredibly hard to put up, and there are numerous gaps. However, I should be able to patch them with caulk and be none the worse for wear. For that much money, though, you shouldn't have to. Also, the gutters are a complete waste, and I never even put them up.

Still glad to have the GH, though!

Yes there are gaps, and they provide lots of little foam for filling, but I do know what you mean about for that much $. I did some caulking with some clear silicon & even caulked around the bottom of mine with some filler, so water couldn't come in from outside & sit under the frame during freezing weather.
Still so far I have had not one problem with mine to date & this will be my second winter in zone 5 with my professional GH.
After I did get mine set up I realized that I was probably now an expert in assembling it... To bad I wouldn't have to worry about doing so again (least I hope not, LOL). Some day if I do, I doubt that I will have 1/2 the trouble at least. : )

I also have a Rion and agree it could be better for the money. Mine came without gutters. One auto-vent failed in a less than a month. I'm still waiting for replacements. If I had it to do over I would have bought two 10X12' HFs and joined them end to end. Too late now. I know I'll enjoy it anyway simply because it's a greenhouse. We already put up the bubblewrap inside, the inside is finished and I've already put many of my plants inside it. These pics were taken last spring. I'll be taking new pics soon.

I have a Rion Prestige 8 x 16, which is now on its fifth year. The only major difference between the Prestige and the Green Giant are is the use of transparent single thickness side panels versus double thickness panels throughout. Providing that the Rion greenhouse structural members are assembled with a lot of care and attention to detail, the end result is an unbelievably strong structure. But another 'secret' to this strength is attaching the base members of the Rion greenhouse to an 'immovable' surface. If the base isn't absolutely rigid and allows the sidewalls to 'bow out', the roof can 'sag' slightly which can allow roof panels to shift and roof 'caps' to pop. This is the primary cause of the roof leaks. In my own case, I used a 4 x 4 base frame with cross braces supporting a cedar deck 'floor'. If you plan on excavating down a couple of feet, something like poured concrete 'side walls' which cannot / will not 'bow out' is highly recommended. I run an overhead mist system that works beautifully ... providing that you have plenty of water pressure available to allow the mister nozzles to spray properly. I also run a 16" ventilator fan on a thermostat behind a side wall vent panel installed next to the double door ... because the 16 ft length makes for too many 'dead air' zones if you're depending on just the roof vents and side wall vents during the peak heat of summer. I actually keep the double doors closed when the temperature starts pushing 90 degrees in order to allow the ventilator fan to create an end-to-end cross-draft ( drawing outside air from sidewall vent panels at the opposite end of the greenhouse.

have any of you HARDENED them off to full sun application .... IF THEY CAME FROM A GREENHOUSE/shadehouse ... perhaps they are burning up.. because you blasted them out to full blistering sun???? when i order conifers.. i always try to remember to ask upon order.. or call them back when i get them.. to ask if they came from a greenhouse ... the next question would be how your zone compare between yours and where they are shipped from ... if they are growing lushly in z8 .. and you plant them asap in z4 in very early spring ... again.. there might be hardening off issues .... but to temps this time .... just speculating ... the grafters in WA and OR... tend to leave them outdoors the second winter.. or what they call winter.. lol ... but GG's are a rooted plant ... and it wouldnt surprise me if they are in green or shade houses .... ken

dont confuse its CONES.. with growth points look at a green branch .... they end in green tips ... i think you are looking at groups of cones ... the tag is still on it.. is this a rather large RECENT transplant.. at the links above.. it is repeatedly stated that transplant increases this .... as well as other things i right clicked the links to open in a new window.. and they did not enlarge.. but when i just clicked them.. they opened large in a new window .. go figure.. learn something new every day .. lol ken

shipping/handling damage ... imagine some studly young man .. grabbing them by the fist full and throwing them on trucks ... on the black top at bigboxstore.. you throwing them int eh trunk.. dragging them across the yard ... etc ... [landscaper dudes] ALL VERY COMMON .. how do you know you give 6 gals.. with a soaker hose ... or do you mean you have metered irrigation hose??? i would have soaked them deep at planting.. in my sand ... mulched well .. and here in MI.. they probably wouldnt not have needed water for a month .. i can not fathom ... the need for water every other day ... unless they did not wet the root mass planted ... completely ... insert your finger.. thru your mulch.. and do not water again ... until it is near dry ... do not water on a schedule.. insert finger.. and figure out.. how water works in your soil ... no one can really tell you how it works in your soil .. you dont mention where you are.. so i cant compare to my MI experience ... do not take pix in full sun ... it washes out the pix ... i agree.. they look pretty darn good at this point. .. just cut out the brown stuff .. back to live tissue.. it will fill in .. do the same with the black stuff ... the things you call bids.. are cones or pollen sacs ... and should be a different color ... if there is a warranty ... then do what they told you ... ken

I love the way you created a planter box all around the GH...I intend to do the same!! makes it look so nice. there are so many wonderfully creative people on this site...If I can gleen (spelling) just a little here and there, my GH will be just amazing....ha!!!

Wow! nice greenhouses and plants. I wish i would have gone with a rion instead of a hfgh. They look pretty sturdy and nice looking. You two have fun with them and goodluck. Barb

I hear people talking about lining with bubble wrap. What size are you using? Is it the thin with the 1/4" dia bubbles, or the larger 1" bubbles? Do you only put it along the sides? Has anyone tried using 2" styrofoam along the sides?

I bought looked at the Rion's but heard a lot of stories about being a PITA to put together, missing parts, poor fits, etc. I ended up buying one from Backyard Greenhouses. I used mine all through the winter last year (first winter) and was able to keep it fairly warm, although the really cold nights needed some help.

I bought the 1" bubbles and the 24" rolls. Avoid Charlies for bubble-wrap and look for a local package place. See the thread on Bubble-wrap. We did the north wall, up to the roof and down part way on the south roof. It's not blocking the sun. We also did the west wall and part of the east wall. We're hoping the two small cheap heaters will keep it warm this winter.
