Need some advice with mounting a Propane Ventless Heater

I have an Elite Greenhouse - aluminum frame with 6 mil polycarb panes. The size is 9'1" x 9'9" and 8'5" high. I purchased a Blue Flame propane heater and I would like some advise about mounting it to the wall. I am afraid the the shelves and planting bench might be too close to the heater. How did you mount your heater and how close are tables, etc. to the heater?

I mounted mine between two 2x4s and I mounted it about 7'up the back wall. The benches run along the sides of my GH. I also have circulation fans running.

well,i didn't mount mine to the wall-i just set it on 2 concrete cap blocks on the ground.it's about 2 feet from the wall,with a box fan about 1 foot behind,and 1 foot above the gas heater.also have an indoor/outdoor ceiling fan.both fans run 24/7.the vent free are very economical to use.i heated my 14' x 24' greenhouse to 51 degrees,using 150 gallons of propane all last winter.

Stressbaby, I was thinking along the same lines. I've even had a contractor help me out a little bit. I'm trying to find out if its okay to use a silicon caulk instead of the rubber strips that came with the kit that go around the polycarb panels. (The rubber stuff makes the panels buckle) I think caulk would work. I'll probably get some Vulkem or something similar to it to put on all the 'cracks' and seams. The only problem is if I want more than a few hundred watts of electricity in the GH, I have to spend over a thousand dollars getting a line run from the house. At least that's what the electrician said because there is only a small amount of volts going into my garage ( which is right next to the greenhouse.) I wish I could just use a big heavy duty extension cord from the house for this winter and see if the thing atleast holds its heat. Part of me feels like two space heaters would totally heat this thing! But another part of me thinks I would need a huge heater and even then it might not work. I mean if I get the darn thing sealed and covered with a pool cover I don't see why it won't work which like an appropriate heater. Plus it isn't a huge GH, it's 8.5ft by 12.5 ft.

Hi Tom if anything the TechShield (1/2" or 5/8", I forget) stiffens the wall a bit, and the heater is only 15lbs so there's really no impact from this addition. I haven't installed my Exhaust Fan yet but with its motor it is MUCH heavier and will be mounted high-up and still I expect zero problems. But about the heater note also from my Details pics: 1. Their are horiz braces immediately above & below the mounting board 2. One of the two uprights left & right has a 3/4" EMT crossbrace at the top 3. The foundation is absolutely rock-steady-unmoveable I guess I disagree that "the walls are pretty flimsy"; you should do just fine unless your HFGH is not reinforced and "breathes" too much. But this would mean bigger problems for the GH than just your heater wall!!! I think if you don't have at least two add-on cross-braces at the top of your stud walls you are asking for trouble big-time.

We have been talking vent free heaters for years now. I was the one that started it 6 or 7 years ago. Just goto Lowes or Depot or your building supply store or some place that has a heater. Get one! Hook it up, check it and make sure you have the right connections, and your ready to go. You can get propane or natural gas and you can get many different sizes based on your size greenhouse and min low night temps. It todays world, gas is about the only way to heat a greenhouse and feel safe that your plants are ok. Trigger is telling you the truth.

how often do you lose power? if it is a lot, then go for a generator. if rare, then i would just get a kerosene heater or a Mr Buddy propane heater and only use them when necessary. my KeroSun 85 heats my shop just fine. when i fired it up a couple weeks ago it was the first time i had lit it in 2 years. the kero in it was over a year old back then. regardless, it fired right up and ran smoke free. also, if you have a gas oven/stove you can use them to heat the house for short periods of time. back when my wife and i were jsut dating her central heat went out inthe trailer she rented. we used the oven adn 1 burner onthe stove to heat the hosue for a week until the part came in. i would say the area we haeted was about the size of your cabin.

Thanks for the advise. My biggest problem is in how much stuff I have already put into my greenhouse. I have a swamp cooler arriving this Monday because I cannot get the temp below 105 degrees right now (I do have a 60% black out tarp over it). I have a sink, potting bench and potting supplies along the north wall, 8'x 2' cedar planter - that takes up one whole side (against the south wall). The door is on the West end and benches along the East end. 4 Vents in the ceiling (2 automatic). 18" wide x 48" bench going down the middle with a 4'fluorescent grow lights on a pulley system over it. I can walk into the greenhouse and I have a 2 ft walking going down 1 side - across the back - then back up to the door. It is tight - now I have to decide what to get rid of to be able to fit the cooler and heater in. How close can benches really be to the heater? The manual says 36" - if that is true i will lose 1/2 my space. I know that the mfg is over stating due to legal issues - but in reality - what have you all experienced? My heater is 20,000 btu.
