Thanks It's been way too hot to do much of anything here.106 and muggy today. I have one grandchild,a 4 year old boy. No chance that his mom will let me give it to him.... :o) Might paint it and plant it for the patio. Hi Northspruce, Obviously I don't have the hang of it yet. I tried the way you describe and everything looked the way you said it would until I got to the preview part, the image didn't show up. Then I went to the test forum and I did get it to work but not from photobucket. There was a link on that page to find the photo on my own computer and I used it and it worked. So, I went back to the gallery on far north and tried again but again it did not show upin the preview. I really feel stupid right now! Help, please. Thanks, BJ in SW MB

We just built a deck with a pergola. We used reed fencing as the roof/ceiling. Here's one photo. More photos are linked below. We have a more rustic canopy over our spa: Do you have an idea of what you want? A fabric covering, like a shade sail or awning? A wood structure that you can grow plants on? A more formal structure with a floor, walls, and a roof, like a gazebo? Rosie (cimmaron), I have looked up the descriptions of Epiphyllum and Hylocereus in 'The Cactus Family' (Anderson 2001). Epiphyllum always has the stem tips flat; the floral tube is long, curved and very thin. Hylocereus has 3-angled stems (though I think they can throw some with 2 or 4 angles); the floral tube is relatively short and thick, almost absent in some species judging from the illustrations. So I would say Jancc's plants look more like Hylocereus. H. undatus in my experience will grow up trees or brick walls clinging by its roots like ivy, sometimes to heights of over 10 m. I don't think epiphyllums do anythging like that. Where I have seen E. oxypetalum it makes a multi-stemmed shrub about 1.5 m high, though maybe it can get a bit taller. As for 'epiphyllum hybrids', it's interesting to note what Anderson has to say: "One encounters numerous so-called epiphyllum hybrids, which in fact rarely involve species of Epiphyllum as a parent. Rather, these magnificent plants, bearing shimmering, iridescent flowers, are mostly hybrids of related genera such as Disocactus, Pseudorhipsalis, and Selenicereus."
