Shade cloth comes in % values that tells you how much sunlight it blocks. We have 50%. It also comes in colors, you can even get striped shade cloth if you want your greenhouse to look circus-like. :) Aluminet shade cloth is a favorite - it is made of finely woven aluminum threads. Google 'greenhouse shade cloth' and you'll find lots of options. It's most effective on the outside, but some folks do put it on the inside. You'll want to be careful to not cover your vents, and to install it snugly so it doesn't flap around and scratch your GH panels. A misting system is easy to make. You need tubing, little misting nozzles, and all the fittings to set it up in whatever pattern you need in your GH. It is also recommended to use a filter so that hard water does not clog the misters or coat your GH with minerals. You also need a timer which is the hardest part to find. After making my initial versions with locally-available parts, last year I upgraded and bought better nozzles and a much better timer. Setting up a misting system will take some fiddling and a few trips to the hardware store. My advice is to not wait until the hot weather arrives to begin this process, as it takes awhile to get it dialed. It's not hard to do though, and it's satisfying to stand under the mist and revel in your DIY skills. :) Lastly, I would not run fans in an empty greenhouse. Why use the energy? Just let the vents stay open. All that said, we are enjoying a perfectly cool summer here in MT so I have barely needed to use the fans and misters this summer. How nice! Harbor Freight did not suggest this. Lets just say that Harbor Freights Tech support was, um Harbor Freight... I have to admit it was nice, they Cross shipped me new ones, which performed the same as the old ones. I found an overseas manufacturer of similar "budget vents", I think they were called Thermofor, who was very helpfull, and gave me a suggestion. I unscrewed the endcap that has the adjustment screw, and press the plunger till the seal almost comes out, then the oil will start to leak if you press softly on the plunger (If I pressed hard the seal comes all the way out, and you get a big mess ;) then close the whole thing and test. THrough trial and error, I now have all five of my HF openers opening between 65 and 75 degrees. Gato, I am not sure why mine did not work, and yours did, I am only 1300 feet higher than you, but I had a Total of ten from HF (The first five and the second five). Even at 38 degrees they were open five inches under load before I modified them ;) I would not recomend that anyone else try this, because I am sure it voids the warranty. (I tried it on just one first, then got bolder and tried the rest. I did spill all the oil out of one, and I replaced the oil with Cooking oil, even this one is now working ;) so I guess I will have to wait and see if opening them is gonna cause any long term ill effects.

Best way to post a series of pics is to host in another account, like Flickr or Photobucket, then use the "share via HTML" code from that account and cut and paste into the body of your Garden Web post. You can preview your message to make sure all the pics look how you want and go in and edit and preview again if they look funky. The Image Upload in Garden Web is a relatively new feature and will only allow one pic at a time. It works but is slow going.

My peppers grow fine in the mid summer heat (40-50C here and very low humidity) They mostly will not produce, but as long as they get watered they continue to grow leaves. In the full sun they will wilt somewhat, but afternoon shade they perk right up again. You can use shade cloth and plant so they get PM shade to help.
