Advice on a new rose web site

I am making a web site about roses, I am working on making the page about diseases better atm. But am looking for helpful links, ideas, and info.

I just started a rose garden and could not find a good all in one seb site so thought I would make one.

I also I have tested lots of myths on how to get rid of aphids with out insectacide. Non of them have worked. Any ideas?

Also If you would be willing to tell me what you think of my site and/or what info needs to be added or changed heres a link.

I'm sorry, but I don't have particularly great security on my computer and you only registered on GardenWeb today, so I won't open your website.
Too many times, strangers have come on here and we've regretted the damage their sites have done to our computers.

If you want to do a good thing, marshall the information on chili thrips and put it into a page with links.
(Aphids are easily handled by beneficial insects.)

I hope you are for real and not spamming us. Please hang around and tell us more about your gardens.

Not very useful information for you, but: I participate in three Swedish forums, two general gardening forums but with rose sections, and the Swedish Rose Society Forum. Sweden is a small country so I've met many participants in these forums in real life. I used to frequent the Peter Beales forum but not so much now. I check a German forum quite often, forumplanten.de although my German is not so good as it was. I feel at home there because the roses discussed are very often varieties I grow myself, especially the old roses and species roses. I still miss the old Usenet forum, rec.gardens.roses, the first forum I discovered in 1995 when the web was fairly new. I keep in touch regularly with one former member in Stockholm and we've met IRL about twice a year for the last 18 years. He's a very good source of unusual plants! I try to reciprocate but I don't have too many rarities. There are two absolutely essential sites for Swedish gardeners, Virtuella floran, with all native plants, their habit, spread, etc, and their names in English, German and all Scandinavian languages, very useful for me. The other is SKUD a plant database of every garden plant sold in Sweden, now or formerly. They update all taxonomic information regularly. A godsend when taxonomists are working so hard to change plant names. I also use some specialist databases, Hirsutum for rhododendrons and Clematis on the Web at the U of Hull, and HMF, of course.

Brand new 3 part trellis, black alum. Advice on siting

Just make sure you fasten the trellis down into the ground. Winds can blow it over and yank out your pretty flowers. I use tent stakes & wire. I learned the hard way!! Nancy

Oh, well, if we are going to count grammar and spelling, then I cannot put my website on here, since I proofed it today and I must have been unusually tired when I proofed it the first time. :)

Good call. The spam sites are largely noted by their low budget look and poor spelling and grammar. I have notlooked at the website but you know what I mean. I would like to think I am wrong in this case but cannot afford any open heart surgery to my computer should anything nasty get in.

I Did some more work on the site. And yes the first page does not say much more than that. It is just an interduction. yes my grammer and spelling does suck. Thats why I use spell check and ask for input from others. I am still putting more info together to expand the pages I have up atm. If you see any thing that needs to be changed or added feel free to email me, or post.

BTW the links on the first page at the bottom go to the other pages. (under the last set of adds)... Maybe I should move it to a side set up, then bottom?

I don't understand why you are doing this. What is it you couldn't find? With the exception of info on specific diseases and bareroot planting, Vintage Gardens offers one of the best basic care and pruning guides, as well as lists of shade plants, hardiness, etc--all in addition to the largest catalog around and the best discription of the classes of roses. The bareroot nurseries give info on bareroot planting and there are lots of sites on rose diseases. I think you are reinventing the wheel.

One suggestion if you are sincere is to give specific information for your area. There is much generic advice covering the U.S. but little specific for any given area. When I started my website years ago I tried to give advice for zone 5a growers as thee was little available elsewhere. Since then many books have been written and thanks to sites like the Rose Forum much more cold climate rose growing advice is available.
Join a local rose society to get as much local information you can. Grow lots of different varieties to improve your knowledge and test/try various methods so your readers beneft from your mistakes.
Don't copy others. Make it personal. A simple Google search can get most of the information people need so having well rounded local information in one spot would help. Visit rose gardens across the state and country for hands on experience.
Put some authority behind your site. By joining the American Rose Society and becoming a Consulting/Master Rosarian you let people know you know what you're talking about.
Check out my site. I get lots of e-mail thanking me for the information there, most from zone 5a rose enthusiasts.

I agree with Ann and others regarding scammers.
To get readers on my site I didn't advertise or promote it. I let local people know it was available if I was asked about rose culture. It spread from there.
If it's a good informative site, people will recommend and use it. It will grow on it's own.
