i just got some spawn yesterday

any suggestions?

I heard that is a great place to buy them. I am planning to use horse manure, dead oak leaves, dead and decaying oak trees, and straw. I am also planning on burning some of the dead oak in the soil.
Do you have any other items that you use or think would be good?

How did these grow for you guys ? I just ordered from Fungi Perfecti and was wondering if burnt Maple charcoal would work or should I look for a source for Oak ?

I don't think you need to use the burnt wood. Review the site, it should give you more information on the propagation methods. (When I visited them what I read was to spread the spawn onto a compost pile in the lawn.) There are some folks in this area who are commercially raising Morels, but I haven't visited with them to find out if they are growing them outdoors, in a greenhouse or in a mushroom house. (Remember, most fungi do not require photosynthesis for propagation, so they can be grown in a totally dark environment with only temperature and humidity control. We have button mushroom farms in this area who use mined limestone caves as growing spaces!)
