I just received my order from Charlie's. :) Unfortunately I broke my right ankle last Friday so can't even think about putting up the bubble wrap insulation. We're hoping those green plastic clips will work in the slots in a Rion GH. If they don't I have no idea how we're going to attach it.

lj1, Where are you located in CA? Do you already have a GH? From what I understand the little clips work very well on the poly, but I would expect you would want to put your shade cloth on the outside and generally people use grommets and rope or bungie cord. I intend to use bungie cord and grommets for mine if and when I decide to get it. right now I am thinking about cold weather. I plan to use double wall poly with treated type on the inside and I don't know what on the outside. I might use the treated there as well. You are right, it can get very confusing as there are so many different ways to do it and everyone has his or her own favorite way. I still have not finish my frame and it seems that everyday I change my mind on how to complete it. Some new idea pops into my mind and plan A, B, C and so on just go out the window. For shade I am thinking of another product that is mentioned in another bubble wrap thread near this one that does not pass light at all, but reflect 95% of the heat either inside back into the GH or reversed repels it away. I like the idea as I could use a strip just like shade cloth for the mid day when it is hot and get my sun in the morning early and late afternoon after it starts to cool.

I put up a HFGH 10 x 12, it was very interesting since the instructions are vague to say the least, but it's up and I put in a bed on one side and shelving on the other.

We are in So Cal an area in the mountains above Palm Springs. The elevation here is about 4700 and we get snow and wind and rain and below freezing temps. The summers get up to 100 degrees.

I installed a mist system and irrigation, which seem to work beautifully, and just today we planted our first veggie plants in the bed and moved in some seeds we started some time ago. I'm still working on some kind of fan for air circulation and pollination and some kind of shade. I plan to plant around the outside of the GH a climbing type of rose called Cecil Brunner. It will give great shade in the summer and dies off in the winter and allows the sun to come in.

The roof will still have to be covered. I don't really want to put it on the outside, I like the clean look of the GH. Do you know what the product is that is reversable? It sounds great. I wonder if it can be installed inside say with sticky velcro, so it can be switched easily?

What is the poly treated with? I can't say for sure if mine is treated or not.

If your poly is treated you will know it as it cost a good bit more, BUT if you that the HFGH you don't need poly do you? It is covered with the solid panels.

No, I'm not. They are twin wall poly. I don't know if they are treated or not. It's not nice to poke fun at a newbie.....

You say the GH is a HFGH. That means the clear polycarb has been treated to protect it from UV radiation.

Velcro will cost you a small fortune to attach bubble wrap.

Please accept my most humble apology. I was not poking fun at you. Perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying. There are other ways to attach the bubble wrap. Double sided carpet tape is one and it is cheap and I know that it will hold up the BW. What I don't know is how easy it will be to unstick it. I mean this stuff really sticks. I use it to hold small pieces of wood so that I can work on them without grind/sanding my fingers off. Another avenue that I intend to explore is the use of RARE EARTH MAGNETS. I use them now in my wood working projects and the little devils are unbelivably strong. Since the frame of your GH is aluminum you would have to drill the frame and install magnets to hold the other magnets. Part of my own frame is PVC and part galvanized steel so I will have to be creative to say the least. Another thought is that you can buy at the office products stores magnetic tape with stickum on one side. That would give you the base magnet and you could then use the small REM's to hold it up. If you want to explore the magnet angle email me thru the system and I will give you a good source. They have all sizes of the little devils.

I've been price and quality shopping for bubble and while awaiting free samples from U-Line, experimented with ordinary bubble wrap and rubber tipped curtain tension rods, and the test results were conclusive.

Tension rods will hold the bubble wrap in place between the polybars, even under the curved roof of my Cross Country, with no clips, tape, hole drilling or adhesieve messes. By running it between the polybars, I'll leave them free for whatever I want to mount on them.

The 24" wide bubble fits between the polybars and behind the shelves, electrical, water and drip lines, so if any of the bubbles are damaged they can be easily and quickly replaced without disturbing the shelving I will also be hanging on the polybars. I also found that by taping shadecloth to the top of the bubble wrap, I can hang it at the same time as the bubble and it holds in place nicely. Yes, I know the aluminet is probably more effective if hung outside, but ease of use is a factor for me too.

The samples arrived from U-Line, and their extra heavy is just as clear and even more insulating than Charlie's. Twice the bubble depth, the same nylon reinforcement, and a lot cheaper. 500 ft: $128.00, + shipping.

So, before any of you order bubble in any longer lengths, do check out what's available from U-Line. Look for the Heavy Duty and if you don't believe my report on it, just ask them for a sample and they will send it to you, quickly, and for free.

They will send you a sample pack of their products. The Temptrol looks good to me. I don't know how long you have sun light there, but we get a very long day here during the summer and I have no problem with using a total sun block for the hottest part of the day because the plants will still get plenty. The product is quite strong IMHO and easy to work with. My nieghbor has a sewing machine and she can join the two pieced and also sew in the edges so that I can run nylon cord all the way around to secure the stuff. I believe I am going to try it as soon as I get the GH up. During the cold season I probably will not need anything, but I can always reverse it to reflect the heat back into the GH. Some one has to be the gueine(SP) pig and it just might be me or you for that matter. Their have some other products that I really and when I build my very little and small house I plan to use them. I am a cheap ole sucker and tight with the money unless it one of my hobbies and then like most of us I go wild. I hate to pay high power bills. I will be using a solar water heater and anything else I can to beat them our of their high charges.

1eyedjack Apology accepted. Thanks for the information. I will get some of the temptrol ordered, it sound like the easiest route. Thanks for the other ideas about how to stick it up, but I found some rather inexpensive velcro at Uline, so I may give this a try. I'll just stick some to each side of the Temptrol and to the polycarbonate panels and turn them over each season. Piece of cake..... My GH faces due west so I get hot afternoon sun in the late afternoon, do you think I need to cover the side walls, top and front or just the front and top?
