Who has Mexican Petunia close to my zone?

I believe I have Ruellia brittoniana since I found pic that looks like it. I 'borrowed' some from my neighbor & transplanted last year just as they were finishing up blooming so this is their first summer in my garden.

Don't see any sign of them coming back as of now, so have questions:

1) When do they start growing in my zone?

2) When do they bloom?

3) If I planted about 5 or 6 stalks, how many should I expect this year? I planted each plant (stalk) about 8-12" apart, so wondering if they'll fill in?

What else can you tell me about it? Here's a pic (not of mine, just off the web) in case I don't have the correct botanical name.

Thanks, Bonnie
