My truck is a stick shift Chevy s-10 with a rear bumper ball hitch. My driveway is flat and 300 feet long.

NOTE:
If the bumper on your truck is stock, supplied and installed at the factory, you will probably end up with a non-bumper condition! Most rear bumpers on pickups are held on by 4 little chrome headed bolts, or by flimsy brackets with little bolts. It is for this condition that they sell trailer draw-bars that bolt to the frame rails, and should be used for any towing. One fellow, while driving down the interstate, saw a boat just like his, passing him up, and setting on a boat trailer, just like his----was his! the bumper had broken off, but was still attached to the trailer hitch.
Yes, you could drag a RR tie behind it, but, do you know how heavy a RR tie is? MMMM.

Dragging *anything* is not going to work particularly well as your tires will have packed down the snow.

You may want to look in your local trader paper and craig's list to find a used plow. You may still have to buy mounting hardware to connect it to your truck, but if you look long and hard you could get something for less than $1000

I presume the truck has 4 wheel drive?

I think if you hang even a small plow on your S-10 you'll be needing a clutch at least before winter is over. The clutches in those little trucks aren't made for hard work.

I tried it using a four by four six feet long. It seems to work. I'll try it using larger wood on deeper snow.
