Sears Craftsman won't run after few seconds
Comments (3)Replace the spark plug. You could squirt or pour a small amount of fuel into the carborator air intake and see if it fires. If you are sure you are not getting fuel into the bowl, then clean and check operation of the float, seat and needle valve controlled by the float. Check for spark. If no spark then check the safety switch associated with the blade brake. Replace the ignition coil as the last resort if there is no spark....See MoreSears Craftsman tractor cranks but won't turn over
Comments (14)So I took off the starter, opened it up, it looked fine, put it back together, and it bench tested it...where it spun up fine. I greased the gear-pinion assembly up good, put it back on the tractor, and she started right up. My guess is the the gear-pinion assembly was just sticking. I should've tried bench testing the starter before I took it apart though...just so I'd know if it was the gear-pinion sticking or if the starter was just bound (or something along those lines). I'm guessing it was the gear-pinion... Thanks for the suggestions...I'm sure I could still use a valve adjustment....See MoreCraftsman Model 917.270812 Won't Stay Running
Comments (5)Yes, check the float, and the needle valve, and the seat where the needle valve applies itself to shut off the flow of incoming fuel. The flooding is due to a defect in one or more of those items. You did OK in checking the Main jet sump for debris build-up but debris in the bottom of the bowl does dot CAUSE the flooding condition. An accumulation of "large pieces of debris" might indicate a problem upstream that is feeding the material into the fuel pump and on to the float bowl. Finding large debris in the bowl should always be followed by arbitrarily replacing the fuel filter (because it might have a breach) and at least the fuel hose running from the filter to the carb inlet (because the hose interior walls might be flaking, hence the debris. Finding large debris in the bowl also means the fuel pump itself could have junk in it. Large debris can become trapped in the needle and seat causing the carb to over fuel, but usually a condition like you are experiencing (absolute drowning with fuel) is caused by a defect in the float or needle & seat....See MoreSears 20" chainsaw starts won't stay running...Help!
Comments (8)I have used and tuned lots of two cycles over the years. I get no lag when i accelerate from idle. Idle is slow enough to prevent chain rotation and still purr. problem is that even with new gas and vent lines I'm not getting consistent fuel flow apparently. I have ordered new check valves. That is the only part that I Have not checked. I even went so far as to remove the vent plug (porous metal filter on end of return air line) and that didn't change the problem. I suspect it is the check valve because when I open the fuel tank I find that the system doesn't cut off. In case anyone is going to say something about the exhaust, I have run this saw pretty cleanly so there is absolutely no carbon buildup on the muffler (BTW, it would take one heck of a lot of rich fuel operation to foul a significant percentage of the muffler screen - speaking of this as a likely problem is a real red herring)....See MoreCletus77
