I found this old recipe for improving soil with lime and salt.

I found this old recipe (Someone quoted part of it in a blog.) that said in London in the 1880s they recommended mixing salt and lime for a soil additive.

They later decided to omit the salt.

Any idea of why they would have come up with this notion in the first place?

All I can conjecture was some salesman had some salt and lime to dump. vbg etc.
