Okay, on different days different aesthetics appeal. Here are the competitors from last year. It's raining and somethings are not as fully in bloom as The Devon Rose.

Yes Randy, Irene is still my favorite--to really appreciate this rose you must bury your nose in her luscious honeyed fragrance or see her as I did at Vintage on a bush covered with fully opened blooms with dusty orange centers looking like a bush of mandalas. I froze. Had to have her.

Clenentina Carbonieri is a luscious little thing without the scent or drama of her more elegant sisters.

Mme. Gregoire Staechlin is not for those seeking the everblooming rose. She blooms once and exquisitely. Spanish Dancer she is also called. She gave me 3 more blooms in the fall. I was enchanted.

I'm dying from bliss, and what a way to go. The roses and the photos are exquisite! Thank you, Luanne! You've made me happy I bought 'Bishop Darlington' last fall. And it looks like the cuttings of 'Mme. Gregoire Staechelin' a friend gave me last October may be taking! Lovely, lovely pics.

My absolute favorite is Mrs. Lovell Swisher, what a very beautiful, delicate rose, directly followed by Irene Churrucca and Mme Gregoire Staechline.

Shopshops, I can't seem to pinpoint your gardening location. Blumenschmidt and Franziska can be persnickety, but they are also happy in the right climate. I have entertained growing them in PDX and know that they will not grow as well as they did in TX. As Molineaux suggested, some locations are prime for these two teas and as Ingrid suggested, in some locations these roses are bad to worse. Can hardly wait to hear about your choices. I don't have much garden time these days, so I'm gardening vicariously through the forum. Carol

I grew 'Cl Devoniensis' for years. It is a monstrously big rose, but that was something I liked. I did not like the heavy, constant mildew (here in Silicon Valley), nor the particularly vicious thorns when I had to work with it. Still, it was gorgeous enough that I kept it. However, when the pine tree fell and took out our fence and the roses growing on that part of it (along with several fruit trees!), I decided not to replace it. Instead I moved a start of my 'Buff Beauty' to replace it on the fence. Still thorny, but healthier and far more manageable. It was a good call for me.

I have three of them, all in the ground, all from the same outfit. They are 1 year old this month. One is about 3x3, another slightly smaller and the third might be 12 inches tall. I know they are all going to make it, and have a strong feeling the small one is making roots like crazy, because what growth it does put out is substantial. I don't spray and they're absolutely clean now although they were lepers of mildew for the first 9 months. Just awful. I almost gave up. Then, in June it went away and has not come back. Strange. When they bloom, people stop on the path and gawk: it's that beautiful. It also has a heavy fruity scent that wafts in the evening here. I hope they get big eventually, because they are special. Yes. Lots of roses look their best here in autumn. I went for a drive around the neighborhood the other day and all the hybrid teas look amazing. I am having serous mildew issues this year, but it only seems to be the potted ones that are affected. Devoniensis and all the in ground roses are clean. I did some reading and apparently overhead watering prevents mildew from forming. The roses in the soil get sprayed by the reticulation system, so it seems to be true. I've started hosing down the leaves when I hand water and even after only a few days the mildew isn't so bad. Devoniensis doesn't seem to get BS here either. It's very healthy.

Luanne -- Bishop Darlington is a favorite of my husband's. It's so generous, and so completely disease-free. (At least, it is totally disease-free HERE.) Ours are just now coming into bloom. :-)

Did you know that the real Bishop Darlington was, in addition to being a prominent clergyman, a noted poet and an active supporter of Women's Rights?

You know that I am prone to doing odd things, like posting cat bath videos in the midst of your pruning thread and pretending my baby devoniensis is rife with jealousy and vanity ... but I gotta say you do have the most beautiful roses and are a whiz with that camera.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful roses. I have a baby bishop darlington and I hope he produces blooms like yours.

Lovely - all of them - but I was particularly interested in the Clementina Carboniari. I have this one, new as a band and I have not seen too many pictures. It is also the slowest growing of all the "babies". Could you post a few more? How is this plant in the garden (although I highly suspect that your climate is very different than mine!)

Ah, Luanne, those are pretty, pretty blooms. What a feast to enjoy. Thanks for sharing them. I have to add a Bishop Darlington to the garden, especially after Jeri's historical comments.

Suze these photos were stored on Picturetrails website that is the only reason I still have them.But it did clear the space for brand new ones. You'll love the Bishop.

There's that pretty Irene Churrucca of yours .. beautiful, I can't smell her from here, but she's a beaute!

I kept coming back to your 'Belle Storey'. Her blooms are perfection in a rose to me.

Thank you very much for the additional pictures of the Clementina! I really had only seen a couple of pictures so this helps a bunch - the written descriptions can be somewhat deceiving sometimes!

Thank you Cziga--once you get started with teas, it only leads to more teas and teas get very large indeed. Clem is 6 feet tall and in a corner so it is hard to guess the actual dimension but the neighbors did put up a fence to keep her out of their daughter's bedroom.
