Need some walk behind snow blower advice please.

WeÂre looking at getting ourselves a snow blower but IÂm not too sure what size to get or even if itÂs worth it.

Pre-amble:

We live in rural Alberta with a driveway about 750Â long.

We have garbage storage , fire wood storage and a work shop in a utility area about 75Â from the house.

There is an area directly in front of the house where we park our car.

WeÂre both senior and advised not to shovel snow (heart thingy you know..suxs to get old).

The driveway isnÂt a concern as for years a neighbor has come in to clear it with a grader, 4WD-reciprocating tractor and blade or front end loader. For the amount of work involved in trying to clear it with a walk behind snow blower, his price is VERY reasonable ($35.00 to plough it out).

Unfortunately he canÂt get his equipment right up to the house (too tight a fit and no room to manoeuvre) so this is where the snow blower now comes into play.

WeÂve only looked at a couple so far (Troy 305cc /28" and a Troy 208cc 24")but my questions are more general in nature.

We tend to get 1" - 3" snow falls that accumulate then a 6"-10" 2 day dump. While the snow is accumulating we tread a path out to our utility area (that can become 3" high and packed) then along comes the dump and we want/need to clear it.

Question is will a walk behind snow blower chew through the packed trails (IÂm hoping the auger chews up the stuff before the blade gets to it to scoop it into the impeller)?

Which size would be best for the small amount of clearing we need to do?

Would it work to walk the trail off centre then when we need to clear, blow it out parallel to the walked over trail? (But then what happens if the cycle is repeatedÂhmmm).

Comments, suggestions ideas appreciated.

Many Thanks
