These are *poisonous* so if you have small children or pets, please make sure they don't have access to them and you may need to explain to your neighbors and their kids that they are poison and not to EVER touch them. They are quite a magnet for children and young animals due to their unusual and striking appearance. More mature animals will likely know that they are hazardous but I'd be cautious just the same. Guess they all don't live in the rain forest. There is a flock of them in Sunnyvale, CA (near San Jose). Amazon green parrots that fly about squalking loudly and they like to eat the berries in the Chinese Pistache street trees. Believe me, there is NO rain here. These have been here for over 25 years. Fun to see. Kudos to that Texas nursery for providing entertainment! Where's Moccasin...she has a small home and posts here...and has parrots too! -Babka

I saw the presumed flower bud in the first shot. But nobody here can comment additionally on that without a closer view. In the meantime the next step at your end would be to look for other pictures of the suggested plant on the web. I don't know 'Giganteum' but otherwise I thought the plant looked like Farfugium japonicum also. When I first saw your pictures.

So beautiful. I have seen this flower or it's close relative only a few times in the woods of Ohio. We call it "ghost flower" here.

It is parasitic too. It grows on the roots of trees and gets all it's energy from them, since it is lacking chlorophyll.

I've seen it listed commonly as "Corpse Flower" too. Can't remember what the Latin is for it though. Will look that up...

I have seen lots of them in the woods of the Sandwich mountains in NH but not where I live here in Texas. I loved these when they would appear in spring and cool rainy times

Great picture, I've only seen this once, when DH and I went for a walk around Newcastle Island here in B.C. one summer.
