Need help identifying Troy-Bilt Tiller
Comments (1)Well, try it out! If it has an operating engine, doesn't rap, runs and drives, and digs and plows, thats about all you can ask for! If it looks nice, seems to have been taken care of, not left to set out in all kinds of weather, has all of its main parts, those things are a plus! I was given one that had set in an old shed, with a busted connecting rod, a dead battery, two flat tires, and a total lack of care! With a new con rod, and a lot of work making it run, I sold it to a friend, for $250, who is still using it, 7 years later! Are you sure it is a Troy-bilt? I think MTD is now handling them, for parts....See MoreHelp with Troy Bilt tiller identification
Comments (3)Yes, PTO in/out is a little slider lever on the left side of the transmission. Has double belt pulleys for 2 different speeds, besides the trans 2 speed. the Kohler is a blocky looking thing, fuel tank squarish-built-in on left side, air cleaner blockish on the right - much different looking than most engines I see on Troy Bilts......See MoreWhich of these Troy-Bilt tillers is best? Your opinion please.
Comments (6)Yea, if you want a workout you could just buy a front tine tiller. Who needs a bowflex lol? Stick with the rear tines you are looking at, thatÂs way too much area to till. Kohler makes a good motor, my grandmother passed 18 years ago and her tiller is still going strongÂBTW she bought it used, and used it from spring till frost. Whatever model you choose check the seals for leaking oil. Check the tines for cracked or bent tines. The tines can be sharpened, but if they are too far gone the tempering will be ground off. Start it and put it in gear and listen for any odd grinding noises or anything else peculiar. And last but not least, as with any CraigÂs list purchase, Take your time and do not be rushed to "buy before the other guy shows up", And if you have a bad felling about it Âwalk away....See MoreTroy Bilt Horse Tiller Help
Comments (46)My Dad(rest his soul) bought his horse new in 1983 and it still runs great! My mother and I use that tiller every year without trouble. We don't use as much as we used to but I just drained the original SAE 140 out of it and it did not look bad at all to what I've seen in my own years. Now I'll have to find some, but I will put the GL1 or GL2 in from comments above so thanks! BTW...the book says to use straight 90 or 140. No multi-viscosity oils at all. The comment above about the Kohler engines is spot on. They are indestructible and run like clocks(with a few misses here and there...lol...gas these days stinks!) but it is still running strong with no issues. Wish they still made machinery like that. Too many bells and whistles now a days....See Moregebkcb_charter_net
