Deciduous tree with yellow berries (in fall)

Unfortunately I did not have my camera along, but found this pic on the web by searching for "tree with yellow berries". Notes I took were: Leaves are lanceolate, 1-2 inches wide, 3-4 inches long, serrated and opposite. Berries occur individually (not in clusters) on long red-tinged or green petioles. They began pale yellow in color, almost white and no more than 1/2 inch in diameter and turned brown as they aged on the tree. The berries contained one or two smooth pear-shaped brown seeds, pointed at one end. Most of the leaves have fallen now (early November) and all that remains are the scattered berries clinging to them (Birds did not seem interested in them). Mature tree height was about 20 feet with a similar spread. Hoping someone can help me put a name to it. Thanks in advance for your input!
