Sharpening Sears Electric Hedge Trimmer
Comments (2)This is how I sharpen my hedge trimmer. Two things first: Make sure the bolts that hold the trimmer parts together are reasonably tight, don't overdo it. Use some 20 or 30 weight oil to lightly lube between the moving parts. After putting on the oil, restart the trimmer to spread the oil. Wipe off the excess. Sharpening: a hand file, relatively of the smooth variety. If you can place the trimmer in a vise, that would be helpful. File each cutting edge at the same angle as was done by the manufacturer - you can tell by the brighter surface that has been exposed by the filing. You may have to move the blade a little to get to all of the surfaces by starting and restarting the trimmer. Do not sharpen or trim fingers....See MoreElectric knife sharpeners
Comments (13)Teresa, steels don't sharpen the blade they just realign any burs. You should use the steel often, every time if you remember, but to sharpen the knife you need to remove metal and because of that, it's done very infrequently. If you take proper care of your knives by using a steel, then true sharpening shouldn't be required more than once a year. And on a lighter note - everyone knows in my house - don't touch Mom's knife. We have my knife then we have a whole block of knives for everyone else. And NEVER put your knives in the dishwasher. Not only is that an invitation for nicking the blade it can also cause the handle to seperate from the tang....See Morehow do you sharpen your knives?
Comments (46)The initial Question was " how do you sharpen your knives." I think a lot have posted, to give some helpful and tech.info. Even if you want to keep doing the same way, which you might think is wrong, I would copy some of the info for future, just in case you might want to upgrade your knives. ????? - - - - - - - - - - - - - Has anyone seen the Kitchen Knives at Lowe's. They are made by " Kitchen Aid " and look pretty good. I lost my Paring Knife about a month ago, so while at Lowe's I bought one for $9.95. I liked the Design. There was a nice varity of other knives. Has anyone else seen them. ??? They were back near the Kitchen Cabinets. Here is the Paring Knife. It holds a good edge. I just touch it up with the steel. The blade is 3 1/2 inches long. It fits my hand well....See MoreHas anyone had success adding brushed to a Craftsman Chainsaw Sharpene
Comments (8)I feel the Harbor freight Sharpener showing is a “Light Weight Model of what the Industrial Sharpeners used. My little 16” chains could only take 2-3 of the sharpening at approx 3.00 in the Mid 80s before they were history. The Dremal type sharpeners allowed me to custom sharpen vs taking excess metal from a tooth. I was Probably Slower but had no problem with the savings. Plus, the convinced for those using the 12 Volt Units on the job if needed. My #1 friend to share work with since 1970 called to say he lost 3 large Oaks at one of his Properties. My response was where will you store all the wood. He shared a Quote of building a Born. My thought is I have no room for a born but I will help him cut-up the trees once they are on the ground…We have shared from no wood to too much wood since the mid 80s. Both of us worked 35-40 years to gain Fair Retirement Benefits. Plus, both of us have Central Air & Heat, here in the DFW area. We still respect the value of not wasting and work when needed vs wasting in safe conditions… I have one “Free” offer on a working Dremal a few blocks away. Plus, planning to go to Home Depot soon, with plans to check their Dremal Brushers for 12V vs 110 v X if they are the same carbon/Etc.. My switch checked good, it ran good for a while and died . Please excuse me mixing subjects, Computer Viruess and Dremel Brushes....See Morejerry_nj
