Round hay bales

We have our fields baled and usually get a few of the bales put near the garden for mulch. I almost gave up on this trying to get the hay off the roll when they put them on the ground like they store them (on their side). Someone on here suggested putting them on their ends (sitting on the swirl part). That worked beautifully to get the hay off the roll last year. I didn't use all the rolls so they sat out in the weather since then. I am so excited this year! The rain can get in the bale this way, so all year they have been composting (this never happened storing them the other way). I started pulling off hay and there were piles of rotted, dark, small haypieces. It's great! I'm hoping this also takes care of most of the weed seeds in it also.

If you have room and access to round bales, this might be the way to go. I can't wait to dig into the other bales now!

Hope this helps someone else--

Kristen
