Morcam Rose Garden, Oakland CA. Many photos.

I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years but had never visited this garden until yesterday. I found out about it from posts that Luxrosa has made here from time to time. It's in a lovely setting, a kind of natural ampitheater shaped valley between sloping hills.

Most of the area in the flat part is planted with modern roses with a few Polyanthas and a mislabeled Rugosa thrown in. But the outer perimeter of the valley and parts of the hillsides have the antiques popping up. The frustrating part for me was that although the moderns were labeled, most of the antiques were not, so I can't tell you what's in most of the photos.

On a shady path on the west hillside I found a large thicket of one of the large Himalayan type roses, perhaps Rosa Brunonii with that spicy cinnamon scent I love. Only a few blooms were open but later on it will be quite a show.

The most surprising discovery was a row of three large Souvenir of Victor Hugo Teas blooming away in the shade of a tree and since they were on the north side I doubt they got any sun at all.
