Shrub 1 looks like Ilex crenata, Japanese Holly. I'm a much better identifier than I am a gardener, but my impression is that these hollies are pretty tough; if you sheared it back it might make a regrowth and look better. On the other hand, if you pull it out you're not losing anything rare. What you see is what you'll get; the flowers are inconspicuous and the fruits are little black berries, not showy. A healthy Japanese holly is a pretty plant, though. Shrub 2 is a Leucothoe, probably Leucothoea fontanesiana, it will have drooping clusters of white flowers in the spring. My guess would be that the black spots are just winter damage and will go away. Shrub 3 is Wintercreeper, Euonymus fortunei. This thing is practically a weed (it is a weed in a lot of areas.) There are loads of different varieties of different colors, etc. If the old growth is in a bad place prune it, if it isn't leave it; this plant probably won't care what you do to it. WW

Lots of debate about pruning JMs and when to do it, but in general the limbs you're talking about should not create a problem. I prune smaller limbs like that year round and have never had a problem. Larger stuff is best left for winter. Some experts like to prune when there are leaves on the tree so they can see how their work affects the look of the tree. Be sure to prune close to the trunk or fork of the limb. A pair of concave Bonsai pruners is invaluable when pruning smaller limbs. It makes a cut that heals very quickly and doesn't leave a "knob".

If it is slow this year, it may also be slow next year, but then it will shoot up. My biggest plant almost got mowed over because it languished for the first 2 years. I have a low tolerance for languishing plants. By languished, I mean that while the others grew a foot and made a dozen small offsets, this one stayed about 6 inches and produced not a single offset. Today, the others are nice clumps, and the languishing one is about 3 ft. tall and this year (5 yr. old) it made a forest of offsets. I just wish I had a male. What are the odds you plant 4 plants and they are all females.

If you're located in the northern hemisphere, I would not repot this time of year. I'd wait until June 2018. Repotting: removing all soil from in and around roots, untangling roots and pruning roots. You need to give it a lot more light. The brown spots also indicate you are over watering.
