Thanks for your comment about Schmidt's Smooth Yellow on HMF - you thought it looked like Leonie Lamesch. That is so interesting, because Kim Rupert thinks it might be Eugenie Lamesch, a "lost" rose which was also hybridized by Peter Lambert right around the same time. It certainly looks like all of the old paintings of that rose (we have not found any photos). I grew SSY and LL right next to each other in a large pot, and everything looked the same except of course the color, and the fact that SSY has no thorns whatsoever. There is a plant of SSY growing at the SJHRG, and also at the Historic Cemetery rose garden in Sacramento.
Kim also thinks SSY might be the same as Belmont Yellow, a found rose. We are waiting for some folks who have that one to post pics (after their plantings thaw out).
