Remote Thermometer Rec?

I had purchased some from Ace, but the distance from GH to house is apparently too far? or something is getting in the way? Because I dont get a reading. I used too, so maybe it's my shade cloth (aluminet 70%) I dont know, but I feel naked without knowing the temps out there...it's only sheer laziness that has kept me from replacing what I have (or dont have I guess is more accurate)

anyone have one that is reasonable priced?

Check your batteries in both the inside unit and the sending unit in the GH.

If I'm understanding what you are looking for, I've got a great inexpensive solution for you. For my little GH, I used a small Oregon Scientific weather station I picked up at I believe Lowes. It has a nice digital monitor I can keep in the house on my desk and has a humidity and temp sensor I keep in the GH. I think the manual says it will work about 100 ft away. Also has a UV sensor too. Right now I have that right outside. It's a great tool for me!! I think it was about $30.

Hi, I found that Lithium Batteries work better in the cold weather than Alkalines. The only gotya is price. It cost me $10 for four AAA batteries. I am using them in the outside sensors this year. Last year I had to replace the Alkaline batteries a couple of times during the winter. I also occasionally bring in a remote sensor if I'm having problems and place it on the hot water baseboard heat units in the house. This drives away any internal condensation that may be causing problems. (Don't try on electric baseboard heat - it may get too hot). Usually one day on the heat vent is plenty to dry out the unit. Good point. I'm afraid that there might be a glitch somewhere else in the chain that's causing the thermostat problem. The tech who fixed the first one was surprised it failed and called GE to ask for a free replacement. I can't believe it's happened again!

Thank you! That particular model does not seem to be available anymore, but they have a number of others. Have not had good luck with Acurite or even Radio Shack so maybe that is a better company. All Walmart had was Acurite. Checking at Oregon Scientific website.

I have one that is made by La Crosse Technology that I've been using for two years. It comes with a sensor that has two channels: one channel gives me the ambient temp in the GH and the second channel uses a wired probe that I use to monitor the soil temp of my potting trays, which are sitting on heating mats. It also transmits the humidity in the GH. But the main reason I bought it is the transmission range, which they claim is up to 100 meters (about 330 feet). My receiver is on the far side of the house from the GH, which is over 100 feet away. Even though the signal has to go through several walls, I never lose the signal. It costs about $30.

kudzu, that's exactly what I need to get, (should have noted that the main reason the one I have now doesn't seem to work is that it's about 150 ft from my GH to where the main monitor is...and I dont really know how far mine will project...obviously not far enough :)

Thanks for that tip, I'll check it out.

I couldn't get a 100-footer to work either, going through several walls etc. I just bought a Honeywell TE532ELW from Amazon for under $30; it's supposed to be one that works up to 300+ feet without walls etc. Haven't tried it yet. GH is about 50 feet from the house.

I have one of these and I think it is great. My GH is about 90 ft from house and where I have reciever is about 110 ft from sender.
