Automatic vent openers not opening very far

I have 2 Univent openers on my new greenhouse and planned on buying a third. However, so far I haven't been able to get them to open very wide. I reinstalled the cylinders according to Charley's Greenhouse advice, but still the lower intake one hasn't opened more than 4 inches, and the roof outflow one more than about 8". I'm hesitant to install another on the other lower window because then I wouldn't be able to open it wider manually. I've tried screwing the cylinder more to open earlier, but it still gets over 85 F in there, and it's only March in Western Washington where it almost never gets 85 out of doors in August. Should I be worried? Is there an opener that's more responsive? I'll try to post photos.

At 85 F. my top univent opens about 12 in. and the bottom vent opens about 8 inches (since it is cooler at the bottom.

One thing to try is to put the pistons in a refrigerator for a few hours before installing. That fully retracts the piston so you can get maximum extension after installing.

Passive ventilation can only help reduce inside temperatures somewhat. It will still be warmer inside than outside, sometimes by a considerable amount. Exhaust fans, shade cloth, misting, etc. are all necessary in my area once the outside temps. get above 85-90 F.

Did the exact same thing - bought one for a cold frame, then never used it. But it is still in the original box with the instructions. It was unearthed from the garage several years ago when I was going to use it on the green house, but I went with a powered-opening vent instead. I'll see if I can find it again without a major archeolgical expedition....

The relationship between the illuminated cabinet and the vent hood are extremely important since they are in such close proximity in this small space.
