If you scroll down to the bottom of a newly created message, there's a box "Optional Link URL", that you can put in the address http:// that people can click on, so they don't have to type the entire long link for a search.

The long vines and growth remind me of Blaze. I don't know if the colors are accurate on my monitor in regards to your picture. In the picture the color looks pink red and Blaze is a bright red. See link below.

after reading up on some suggestions, I want to add that the pedals have 7 leaves, and color starts pink, and fades slightly with age. I can post a picture of leaf structure if it would help

I grow Dorthy Perkins and I do not think that this is Dorthy. Dorthy has a fuller bloom and tends to throw out a lot of lateral shoots. But it would be nice to have a close up shot of a bloom.

I don't know what rambler this rose is, but it is not Dorthy Perkins. The bloom form is too flat and there are not enough petals. But there are a few photos on Helpmefind.com that are identified as Dorthy Perkins that do not look true to form to me either.Good luck!

It's definitely a multiflora rambler. Whether the repeat is due to it being a repeat flowering type or due to its being established, happy and in the right situation and climate to produce a "repeat" bloom or not, I don't know. There are offspring of Dorothy Perkins which it could be. I would do an advanced search on HMF for a rambler of multiflora breeding, providing as many traits as you can to see what it brings up. The alternative is to search the sports and seedlings from Dorothy Perkins to see what fits. Kim

I agree that it is probably a Wichurana type of rambler. Maybe with DP as a parent. I have seen roses get fuller with age, so maybe it is just young.

The original post said that it is thornless, is this true? Or does it just have sparse or small thorns? I can't really tell from the photos.

100% thornless

Dorthy Perkins definitely has thorns. It should be easier to identify a thornless rose.

How about American Beauty or Chestnut rose?

When searching ramblers I came across 'peggy martin rose' and it fits for location, and the pictures seem to match. Peggy Martin seems to be a recent name given to it, does anyone know the origin of this rose bush?

I thought about Peggy Martin but it is a fairly recent rose. Chestnut of the oldies would be my guess.

Pappy, according to the article below, the "Peggy Martin" rose was collected by Peggy Martin in New Orleans in 1989. Unfortunately, the article doesn't tell more about its history with the family who gave it to her, or where they acquired it.

It is definitely an old rambler and most likely not 'Dorothy Perkins'. I don't think it is possible to ID it from the photos, there are so many pink ramblers from the early 1900s.

Your rose appears to be an exact match for "Peggy Martin". I bought mine from Chamblees a few years ago and it is one of my very favorite roses.

Your initial description of your rose is exactly how Peggy Martin behaves in my garden. Heavy bloom in the spring, and flowers scattered here and there for almost the rest of the growing season. Practically 100% thornless. Your closeup photo showing clusters of flowers and a good view of the leaves is what sealed it for me.

I can agree with you in all respects except one. I have had this rose for over 30 years, and the oldtimer I got a cutting from had it many years before that. Probably more than 30 years. If I remember correctly, he said he got his cutting from a very old home in the country in SE Louisiana.
My pass time is mounting and growing orchids, bromiliads and elkhorn on cypress driftwood. Before hurricane Katrina I had hundreds and lost most. Now I have recovered to nearly 100. This rose (rambler?) that I have discussed here is my only rose so I guess that makes puts me in pre-K knowledge wise. All the help and suggestions have been appreciated. I never knew there we so many roses in my class, that is, thornless, cluster bloom, 7 leaf, pink, etc. I have a picture from about 10 years ago from my backyard in New Orleans, and the rose covers the fence, about 40 feet across, and by the time of Katrina it was near 60 feet across. The fence was blown over, so quite a pruning had to be done. With age, it grows to quite a size. I now live on the water in coastal Mississippi. The only reason I continued to start cuttings and keep a rose is because it is thornless. If I understood what I read about 'peggy martin' the rambler owned by that person had no prior name, so it was named after her in 1989? If that is correct, then I guess I could have the same one. What are your thought on this?

The Peggy Martin rose is definitely older than its current name. It is an old passalong plant, exactly like you are describing. I first knew of it when I saw an article in Southern Living after Hurricane Katrina. I was fascinated by the story, and enchanted by the photos, and I knew I had to have it for my garden. Last year, American Rose Magazine (from the American Rose Society) featured this rose in an article. It included beautiful photos from the Antique Rose Emporium. I cannot find an online copy of the article, or I would share it, also.

There are very few thornless rambler roses ... most of the suggestions that were mentioned in the comments above were coming from the habit and the pink flowers, not the thornlessness. I grow ramblers by Barbier, Walsh, Van Fleet, Manda, and many other hybridizers ... Peggy Martin is quite unique among them.

I grow many roses that are a mystery ... most of whom were found in cemeteries and old houses. The mystery is part of the story.
