It will have to be put in a pot and moved into a garage or shed for the winter. It will not be hardy if left outside.

How warm is an unheated shed going to be? This sounds fairly tricky to me. It can't be left outside, but an attached garage is going to be too warm. The rose won't go dormant. However, an unheated, detached building isn't going to hold enough heat.

I failed in my attempt to keep a tree rose in the attached garage. It was the only option I had. It never did go dormant...but it sure enough died.

Temperature range probably needs to be something like 20 to 40 with any colder dips limited to a few hours at a time. This is not easy to manage.

My suggested options:

1. Dig a huge trench and bury it in November.

2. Sue the people who sell the darned things anywhere north of zone 8.

I know this won't be of any help to you, but wanted to share with you what a friend of mine does. She bought a tree rose from a local greenhouse. For a fee of $15 annually, they overwinter the rose in a cave and even though it looks really rough by fall (she's not a rose person), it comes back each spring looking beautiful....all pruned/shaped and extremely healthy. Wish I had a cave in my backyard!

This may be a fluke,as I have never had any tree rose survive until this year, but my Baby's Blanket is covered with new growth. I did have a big clump of moss over the graft sight. I cannot believe it!

What if I plant it in the ground instead of a pot will it still live then?
