First try at a perennial garden

After a lot of seed sowing, back breaking hard work through spring and summer of last year, ending with either deer or slugs eating the plants or the winter taking its toll on the Annuals, I came to a decision. Stretch the dollar and the hard work. Grow perennials next year.

Yesterday, I took the first step towards this goal. I had spent quite a bit of time on these forums reading and researching and got quite a bit of knowledge of deer and slug resistant plants.

Here is what I came up with and planted in allyesterday :

- 8 bare root roses from Walmart $ 4.00 and $ 6.00 each

- 15 bare root peonies from Blooming bulbs $5.00 each

- 24 stella d' oro daylilies From Costco $19.99 for the bag.

- 15 astilbes From Costco $ 19.99 for the bag.

- 12 phloxes From Costco $ 19.99 for the bag.

- 6 white daylilies From Costco, $11.99 for the bag.

Don't know if I stretched the dollar or my budget, really, becoz I also have some asiatic lillies and oriental lilies sitting in my car trunk. Must have spent way more than I planned...but the joy of planting and knowing that something beautiful is growing in your yard is awesome.
