Thank you for your thoughtful advice, Springwood Gardens! I appreciate it. We do get pretty hot here in the summer, but it's also very humid. I check on the bushes everyday, and they have not been wilting at all so far-- I do make sure to keep their soil moist; one side already has a drip hose around the plant (far enough out to not get the leaves wet), the other I've just been watering when the soil feels dry half an inch down. I've read enough to know that hydrangeas cannot tolerate BOTH full sun and dry soil. The leaves on my particular Revolutions are noticeably smaller than the leaves on the Horwack I have, which might be why they seem much more resistant to wilt than the Horwack. I will admit if I had done even more research when I started to plant them, I would have placed them in a shadier location for the first 6 months or so... but they have been growing in full sun this whole time, so I'm pretty sure the Revolution can tolerate it (unlike the Horwack). I thought they were more likely to tolerate full sun, too, since I"m in a cooler climate than a lot of hydrangeas will prefer (but, the zone thing doesn't really account for the highs of an area-- we do have highs for most of the summer in upper 80s and lower nineties, with a few spikes or hot weeks over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in August and September. I don't mind babying the little plants, though-- I think as long as I'm conscientious about keeping an eye on the health of the plants from day to day, they should be okay. I'll pot them up and move them out of full sun if I see them struggling. I didn't think hostas grew well in full sun-- am I wrong? I do have some sedum I could transplant around the little guy, but I'm worried about the root competition. When I moved them from gallon pots into the soil I noticed the roots were pretty shallow still. If that would be better than mulch, though, I'll do it. I will definitely build up the mulch-- I'm planning to mulch everything after work today. It's supposed to rain tomorrow. I feel like I should probably snip off the buds for the health of the plants this year so they can put their energy into growing roots and leaves, but I also want to see the blooms since I've read so many posts on here of people believing they have one variety, and when it blooms it turns out to be a different variety. What if I leave one bunch of broccoli intact on each plant and nip off the rest of the flower buds? Will that encourage them to grow more? Sorry if my questions are obvious, these sort of specific information are hard to find on google. Although I like the Horwack a lot, I am really impressed with the Revolution so far. They've been much more hardy than I expected for hydrangeas. And the compact size is perfect as we have a pretty small lot! I attached a picture to show the relative leaf size of the Horwack versus the Revolutions-- this is right after I pulled them out of the shipping container from the ebay seller; so this is the size they all started out at in late April. They've definitely grown.

That would depend on a place where you are planning to put your container(s). Enziandom is a show-off hydrangea and deserves a such spot where it always be a conversational piece. In ground it grow rather wider than tall, but in container may behave differently. BTW, it has a lacecap sister-version, Nachtigale (Nightingale). All Domotoi I ever saw was very pale washed denim blue. Not a my cup of tea, but again, all depend of where you want to place it. Claudie is a very interesting hydrangea, but beside the bloom time it has nothing interesting to show after. The same apply to the Blue Bird, though since it is a serrata and seems to be most hardy of all common varieties, you may even could try it in a ground, not a container. I would, especialy for 9.99 :-) TD has those transitional color change phases as you know that could be worth to offset additional troubles you'll have by growing it in a container. I'd expect it to stay in 3x3' range (4x4' in a ground). One more thing to consider, color. In container you could easily keep soil either alcaline or acidic thus have any color you wish to, so chose the cultivar(s) of the appropriate 'natural' color you want to see. For the best red I'd chose Red Cardinal, for the best blue- Enziandom.

HI Ostrich - Passing " best performing" judgment on the 7 H paniculatas in my piece of soil is not easy, as it is tantamount to comparing them unfairly  age, inherent habits, bloom /foliage, production/size/color, over-all Âpleaser-effect (which are in the eyes of the beholder), etc make choosing one over another difficult! Because IÂm partial to daintier/airier blossoms, it makes Princess Kyu a favored choice, hands down, but she is a tree-form! Among the bushes, QF in her 2nd yr met a # of my personal criteria  beautiful form & not one moment, winced under true f/s exposure! Tardivas, are consistently, great & early performers, have grown very large as predicted in their 4th season! PD held her own  stature as well as, tons of beautiful blossoms (1st season in ground, technically - was over-wintered outdoors in pot). I donÂt count AB as she is a true 1st season & as we all know, loaded with bloom-boosting-hormones by growers. LL's 3rd season, got the ÂWow-effectÂ/quite a bloom performer & breathtaking during his early-bloom-stages but failed in my over all performance criteria! Â:( All are now in their different shades of pink stages! Sorry, I guess I complicated "best performing .... this year" with my criteria!

Named ones= Begonia " Richardsiana" B." Snow Capped " B. "Tea Rose" B. "Hot Tamale" B. "Good and Plenty " B, "Tiny Gem " B. " Silver Queen " The Richardsiana has in pass week took a big flop , and so not sure whats up with it , taken it back into house , hope it was just heat stroking from 100 + daze we have been in for pass couple of weeks here in nastyville , so not sure about it. Two other's unknown named ones but pretty just the same and last one I think mite be B. " Sophia Cecile " not sure. I see you have " My Special Angel " have been looking at it in the catalogs . sorry I'm so long winded.... but sure there must be something in your long list that we can work with . P.s. I wont make it to any plant swap so..... not sure how we would do this if we've a mind to ???? But thanks for your time and effort if thats the only way .
