Zone 4b Woodland Plant Identification Needed

Non-woody plant found in Zone 4b deciduous (largely oak) woods in the Minnesota River valley. Unknown whether annual or perennial.

Main stem is smooth and round. Plant height 2-3 feet.

Leaves are large (up to 6 inches), ovate, alternate, and coarsely serrate.

Flowers are in clusters, tiny white. These clusters end up looking like small fan-shaped leaves with single seeds hanging underneath.

Seeds are flat, round with one flat side, black, 3/32" diameter. Seeds hang under "flower" clusters.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom
